punishment, when they are brought before the fearful judgment seat, what shame will seize them before the righteous judge, having no word of defense! What disgrace will seize them, being separated at the left hand of the king! What darkness will fall upon them, when he speaks to them in his anger, and in his wrath troubles them; when he says to them: Depart from me, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. Alas! alas! what affliction, and pain, and distress, and fear, and trembling their spirits will receive, when the cry of all the heavenly powers comes, saying: Let the sinners be turned back to Hades! Woe, woe! what a song they will cry out, lamenting, and mourning, and wailing, beating their breasts, being led away to be punished bitterly for endless ages! Alas, alas! what a place it is, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth, the one called Tartarus, which the devil himself shudders at! Woe, woe! what a thing is the Gehenna of unquenchable fire, burning but not giving light! Alas, alas! what a thing is the sleepless and venomous worm! Woe, woe! what a terrible thing is that outer darkness, which remains forever! Alas, alas! what sort of angels are those in charge of the punishments, uncompassionate and merciless! For they reproach and rebuke them terribly. Then those being punished cry out earnestly, and there is no one to save; for they will cry to the Lord, and he will not hear them; then they will know that all the things of life were vain for them; and what they thought here to be good, and full of joy, will be found more bitter than gall and bitter venom. Woe to the sinners! when the righteous stand at the right hand, and they are afflicted; when the sinners mourn, and the righteous rejoice; when the righteous celebrate, and the sinners lament; when the righteous are in calm, and the sinners in storm and calamity. Woe to the sinners! when the righteous are glorified, and they are condemned; woe to the sinners! when the righteous are filled with every good thing, and the sinners, lacking, groan. Woe to the sinners! when the righteous are glorified, and they are reproached.

The righteous in sanctification, but the sinners in conflagration; the righteous are praised, but the sinners are deemed wretched; the righteous in the abodes of the saints, but the sinners in eternal exile; the righteous will hear, Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. But the sinners will hear, Depart from me, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. The righteous into paradise, the sinners into the unquenchable fire; the righteous live in luxury, the sinners are worn out. The righteous dance, but the sinners are bound. The righteous sing, the sinners lament. The righteous the thrice-holy, the sinners the thrice-wretched. The righteous the song, the sinners the chasm. 77.1081 The righteous into the bosom of Abraham, the sinners into the torments of Beliar. The righteous into rest, the sinners into condemnation. The righteous are refreshed with dew, the sinners are set aflame. The righteous rejoice, the sinners are withered by grief. The righteous are magnified, but the sinners waste away. The righteous are exalted, but the sinners are humbled. The righteous are warmed, but the sinners are blackened. The righteous are filled with good things, but the sinners are shaken. The sight of God will nourish the righteous, the sight of fire will grieve the sinners. The righteous are vessels of election, the sinners vessels of Gehenna. The righteous are refined gold, and proven silver and precious stones; the sinners are wood, stubble, hay, kindling for the fire. The righteous are wheat for the kingdom, the sinners, chaff for destruction. The righteous are chosen seed, the sinners are tares for the fire. The righteous are divine salt, the sinners are filth and stench. The righteous are undefiled temples of God; the sinners, defiled temples of demons. The righteous in the
