the unchangeable, the incomprehensible; the maker of all things, the redeemer of all; who forgives all our iniquities; who heals all our diseases; who redeems our life from corruption; who crowns us with mercy and compassion. Angels praise you; archangels worship you; principalities hymn you; dominions cry out to you; powers proclaim your glory; thrones send up praise to you; thousands of thousands stand by you, and ten thousands of ten thousands offer you their service. The unseen hymn you; the seen worship you, all things doing your word, O Master.
The deacon says. You who are seated, arise. The priest says. O being God, true Lord from true God; who has shown us the light of the Father;
who has granted us the true knowledge of the Holy Spirit; who has revealed this great mystery of life; who has established for humans the choir of the bodiless. You who delivered the hymnody of the seraphim to those on earth, accept with the unseen also our voice. Join us to the heavenly powers. Let us also with them, having cast aside every unseemly thought, cry out as they do, with unceasing voices let us exclaim, with ceaseless mouths let us hymn your majesty.
The deacon says. Look to the east. The priest says. For around you stand the seraphim, six wings to each one;
and with two wings they cover their faces; and with two their feet; and with two they fly, and cried out one to another. He exclaims. The triumphal hymn of our salvations, with a glorious voice, with a brilliant voice, hymning, singing, crying, glorifying, shouting and saying.
The deacon says. Let us attend. The people say. Holy, holy, holy, Lord of Sabaoth, heaven is full, etc.
The priest says. Holy, holy are you, Lord, and all-holy. Exceptional is the light of your essence; 36.709 unspeakable is the power of your wisdom. No word will measure the ocean of your love for mankind. You made me a man, as one who loves mankind, not yourself being in need of my servitude, but I rather being in need of your lordship. Through compassion you brought me into being when I was not; you set up heaven for me as a roof; you fixed the earth for me as a foundation; for my sake you bridled the sea; for my sake you brought forth the nature of the animals; you subjected all things under my feet; you left out not one of the deeds of your love for mankind in me.
The people say. Lord, have mercy. The priest says. You formed me, and placed your hand upon me; of your
authority you inscribed the image in me; you placed in me the gift of reason; for my delight you opened paradise; you delivered the teaching of your knowledge; you showed me the tree of life * you pointed out a tree to me; you made known the sting of death; you forbade me the enjoyment of one plant; from it alone, therefore, you told me not to eat; I ate, I transgressed the law; by my will I neglected the commandment; and I seized the sentence of death.
The people say. Lord, have mercy. The priest says. You for me, O Master, changed the punishment; as a good
shepherd you ran to the one who was lost; as a true father you sympathized with me who had fallen; you bound me up with all the medicines for life. You yourself sent prophets to me; for my sake who was sick, you gave the law as a help. You yourself * ministered to me the things for health that had been transgressed; you caused light to rise for those who were wandering; for the ignorant
