angels rejoiced, demons wept, Joseph was crowned, the Egyptian woman was shamed. victory touched her. she turns to slander, and accuses Joseph to her own husband, attributing shame to him, saying, "Why have you brought in a Hebrew servant to mock us?" The husband is indignant, and throws him into prison. For the lamp was necessary to those in darkness, the giver of grain to the hungry, the harbor to those in a storm, the physician to the sick. Two of Pharaoh's eunuchs are also thrown into prison; they see dreams; there was no one to interpret; they report them to Joseph; he clarifies what was hidden. The eunuchs are released from prison; it turns out for them just as Joseph interpreted. King Pharaoh sees a dream; there was no one to clarify it; the eunuch announces about Joseph; he is brought out of prison because of the dream. And see a mystery for me: through a dream he was sold; through a dream he was set free. What then? He interprets Pharaoh's dream, the king sees his shrewdness, and he freed him to rule, entrusting to him all authority over Egypt. Having received the authority, Joseph, in the time of famine, benefits everyone, those abroad, those at home, friends, enemies, strangers; his father comes to Egypt; his mother also bows down to him with his father. For even if she died on the way coming, yet in her husband she bowed down; for husband and wife are one flesh. His eleven brothers also come, they bow down to him; and the vision was fulfilled, which Joseph saw: "For I thought," he says, "that the sun, and moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me." Why eleven? Because Judas hanged himself; for Joseph who was sold was a symbol of Christ who was sold by Judas. Do you see how through chastity he was justified, through chastity he reigns in heaven? But these things have been said to us, so that you also, by emulating the same way of life, may receive the same glory from God. But we should also have spoken about the blessed Susanna, especially since we promised; but since it is better to depart thirsty, and not for those who are sated to spit out what they have received, we will keep the narrative for another day, by God's will, and now let us run to the mixing bowl of the mystagogy, in Christ Jesus our Lord, to whom be glory and power for ever and ever. Amen.
