of faith and uncircumcision through 3.31 faith. Do we then nullify the law through faith? By no means! But we uphold the law. 4.1 What then shall we say about Abraham our father according to the flesh? 4.2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before 4.3 God. For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, 4.4 and it was counted to him as righteousness." Now to the one who works, the wages 4.5 are not counted as a gift but as a debt; but to the one who does not work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith 4.6 is counted as righteousness, just as David also speaks of the blessing of the man to whom God counts righteousness apart from works: 4.7 "Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; 4.8 blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin." 4.9 Is this blessing then on the circumcision or also on the uncircumcision? For we say, "faith was counted to Abraham as 4.10 righteousness." How then was it counted? While he was in circumcision or in uncircumcision? 4.11 Not in circumcision but in uncircumcision; and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith that he had while in uncircumcision, so that he might be the father of all who believe 4.12 through uncircumcision, so that righteousness might be counted to them, and the father of circumcision to those who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had in uncircumcision. 4.13 For the promise to Abraham or to his seed, that he should be heir of the world, was not through the law, but through the righteousness of 4.14 faith. For if those of the law are heirs, faith is made void 4.15 and the promise is nullified; for the law brings wrath; 4.16 for where there is no law, there is no transgression. For this reason it is of faith, that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but also to that which is of the faith 4.17 of Abraham, who is the father of us all, as it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations,"—in the presence of him whom he believed, God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being the things that are not 4.18 as though they were. Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken: "So shall your 4.19 seed be." And not being weak in faith, he considered his own body as good as dead, being about a hundred years old, and the deadness 4.20 of Sarah's womb. But concerning the promise of God he did not waver 4.21 in unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God and 4.22 being fully persuaded that what he had promised, he was also able to perform. Therefore 4.23 it was also counted to him as righteousness. But it was not written for his sake 4.24 alone that "it was counted to him," but also for us, to whom it is to be counted, to those who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord 4.25 from the dead, who was delivered up for our trespasses and was raised for our justification. 5.1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, let us have peace with God 5.2 through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and 5.3 we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also boast in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces 5.4 endurance, and endurance, character; and character, hope. And 5.5 hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our 5.6 hearts through
