Pray more frequently, that God may count you worthy of the heavenly and immortal mysteries. Be idle neither day nor night; but when sleep falls from your eyes, then let the mind [your] be at leisure for prayer. And if you see a shameful thought rising up in your mind, take the saving reminder of the judgment; give your mind leisure for learning, that it may forget evil things. If you see someone saying to you; And are you going down to enter the water? for does the city not now have baths? Know that the dragon of the sea is devising these things for you; pay no heed to the lips of the speaker, but to God who is at work. Guard your own soul, so that you may become unassailable; that, having remained in hope, you may become an heir of eternal salvation. 17 We, for our part, as men, both command and teach these things. But do not make our building hay, and stubble, and chaff; that we may not suffer loss when the work is burned down; but make the work gold, and silver, and precious stones. For in me is the saying, in you the purposing, but in God the perfecting. Let us strengthen the mind; let us brace the soul; let us prepare the heart; we are running for our soul; we are hoping for eternal things. But God is able, [who knows your hearts, and discerns who is genuine, and who a hypocrite] to guard the genuine, and to make the hypocrite a believer. For God is able even to make the unbeliever a believer, if only he gives his heart. And to blot out the handwriting that is against you; and to grant you an amnesty for your former trespasses; and to plant you in the Church, and enlist you for Himself, having clothed you with the armor of righteousness; and to fill you with the heavenly things of the new covenant, and to give the indelible seal of the Holy Spirit for ever, in Christ Jesus our Lord, to whom be the glory for ever and ever.
