32. Secundians, with whom are associated Epiphanes and Isidore, these also using the same syzygies, holding similar opinions to Valentinus, but relating some things differently from him. they add to this by teaching shameful conduct; these also forbid the flesh. 33. Ptolemaeans, they too being disciples of Valentinus, with whom Flora is associated. They also say the same things concerning the syzygies just as Valentinus and the Secundians; but these also differ in some respect. This is the recapitulation of the second tome of the first book of the thirteen heresies. 2.1 The following are also in the third tome of the first book, in which there are thirteen heresies: 34. Marcosians. A certain Marcus was a fellow student of Colorbasus, he too introducing two principles. He rejects the resurrection of the dead, but by means of potions from an incantation, changing certain phantoms to a dark blue and purple color † he initiates the deceived women. and he too wishes all things to be led † by the twenty-four elements, similarly to Valentinus. 35. Colorbasians. And this Colorbasus, likewise relating the same things, but differing in some respect from the other heresies, I mean from those of Marcus and Valentinus, taught the projections and ogdoads differently. 36. Heracleonites, they too are carried away by the mythology of the ogdoads, but differently from Marcus and Ptolemy and Valentinus and the others. But also at death, similarly to Marcus, they redeem those dying among them by means of oil, opobalsam, and water, reciting certain invocations in Hebrew words over the head of the one supposedly being redeemed. 2.2 37. Ophites, who glorify the serpent and consider it to be Christ, having this reptile, a natural serpent, in a certain chest. 38. Cainites, who likewise, along with the previous ones, reject the law and the one who spoke in the law, and deny the resurrection of the flesh, glorify Cain, saying that he is of the stronger power. And at the same time they also deify Judas, and also those around Korah and Dathan and Abiram, and also the Sodomites. 39. Sethians. These in turn glorify Seth, saying that he is from the Mother above, who repented for having projected those of Cain's party, then, after Cain was cast out and Abel was killed, came together with the Father above and made Seth a pure seed; from whom, then, the entire human race was brought down. And they too taught as doctrine principalities and powers and whatever the others teach as doctrine. 40. Archontics. These in turn refer everything to many rulers and say that what has come into being has come from them; and they are convicted of some shameful conduct. They reject the resurrection of the flesh and malign the old testament. They use both the old and new testament, twisting every word to their own understanding. 41. Cerdonians, from Cerdon, who succeeded Heracleon in his share of the error, and added to the deceit; who, having moved from Syria to Rome, set forth his preaching in the time of bishop Hyginus. this man preaches two principles opposed 2.3 to each other, and that Christ was not born; likewise he also rejects the resurrection of the dead and the old testament. 42. Marcionites. Marcion, hailing from Pontus, was the son of a bishop,
