But Lamech, taking two wives, also committed two murders. Those whom he killed, a man and a youth, were brothers of Enoch, who, having prayed in faith not to see such a death again, was heard and was translated.

That Abel was concerned with righteousness; for which reason they say his body also became invisible, suggesting good hopes to the righteous who came after. But Cain first invented the plow, and built a city in the name of his son Enon. And that after his sentence he became a robber and a covetous man, first devising measures and weights and boundaries of land, and gathering his own together taught them to engage in wars. He was lowly from the curse of God, and all who were born of him. And he dwelt in the land which is trembling, being lowly, having been separated from 1.16 the generation of Seth according to the command of Adam. This Cain, as the little Genesis of Moses says, dies when his own house falls upon him; for with stones he killed his brother Abel, and with stones he himself was also killed in like manner.

That Seth is recorded as the third son of Adam; who, having married his own sister called Asuam, begat Enos. Seth means resurrection. And he was also named a god because of the radiance of his face, which he had his whole life. And Moses, also having this grace, would put on a veil when he spoke to the Jews. * * for a period of forty, having given names to the seven planets, he also devised the wisdom of the celestial movements. And having made two pillars, one of stone and one of brick, he wrote these things there, knowing of the destruction of all things, and that if it should happen by water, the stone one would be preserved, but if by fire, the brick one; which is preserved, as Josephus testifies, in the Siridon mountain even to this day. He also composed the Hebrew letters. For Seth was born in the two hundred and thirtieth year of Adam, and having become twelve years old, he was weaned; and in the two hundred and seventieth year of Adam, Seth, having been caught up by an angel, was initiated into the things concerning the future transgression of his sons (that is, of the Watchers, who were also called sons of God) and concerning the flood and the coming of the savior. And on the fortieth day, having become invisible, he came and related to the first-formed 1.17 all that he had been initiated into by the angel. And he was very handsome and well-formed, both he himself and those born from him, being called Watchers and sons of God on account of the radiance of Seth's face; and they inhabited the higher land of Eden, living like angels near paradise, until the one thousandth year of the world. The author of evil, not bearing to see their virtuous way of life, wounded them with the beauty of the daughters of men, that is, of Cain.

That "Enos first hoped to call upon the name of the Lord God" is to be called by the name of God. For Enos is interpreted as man according to the Hebrew meaning; so the savior is truly son of man, according to the natural account of Africanus. And Enos begets Mahalaleel, and he Jared, from whom Enoch. He is the first to learn and teach letters, and is deemed worthy of the revelation of divine mysteries. And the first period of five hundred and thirty-two years is completed; and the time of Seth was three hundred and two, and of Enoch ninety-eight.

That Adam, having repented in the six hundredth year, knew through revelation the things concerning the Watchers and the flood, and the things concerning repentance and the divine incarnation, and concerning the prayers sent up to God at each hour of the day and of the night from all creatures through Uriel the archangel who is over repentance, thus. At the first hour of the day the first prayer is 1.18 completed in heaven, at the second, the prayer of angels, at the third, the prayer of birds, at the fourth, the prayer of cattle, at the fifth, the prayer of beasts, at the sixth, the presentation of angels and the judgment of all creation,
