Are you saying that I, the one who created, am greater than him who was created for my sake, said the Saracen to the Christian. But the Christian answered: I thank God. Thus understand John as a slave and a servant who ministered to Christ in the Jordan, in which, having been baptized, my Savior crushed the heads of the wicked demons lurking there. But the Saracen, greatly marveling and being at a loss and having nothing to answer the Christian, departed, no longer attacking him.

ἀργυρώνητον ἢ σὲ τὸν καθαρθέντα ὑπ' αὐτοῦ ὥς τε καὶ δεσπότην αὐτοῦ ὄντα; Ἐμαυτὸν λέγεις μείζονα τὸν κτισάμενον ἢ ἐκεῖνον τὸν ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ κτισθέντα, εἶπεν ὁ Σαρακηνὸς πρὸς τὸν Χριστιανόν. Ὁ δὲ Χριστιανὸς ἀπεκρίθη· Εὐχαριστῶ τῷ θεῷ. Οὕτως μοι νόει καὶ τὸν Ἰωάννην ὡς δοῦλον καὶ οἰκέτην ὑπουργήσαντα τῷ Χριστῷ ἐν τῷ Ἰορδάνῃ, ἐν ᾧ βαπτισθεὶς ὁ σωτήρ μου τῶν ἐκεῖσε ἐμφωλευόντων πονηρῶν δαιμόνων τὰς κεφαλὰς συνέτριψεν. Ὁ δὲ Σαρακηνὸς σφόδρα θαυμάσας καὶ ἀπορήσας καί τι ἀποκριθῆναι μὴ ἔχων τῷ Χριστιανῷ ἀνεχώρησεν μηκέτι προσβάλλων αὐτῷ.
