the violence of the waves was sinking the ship, whose eyes were sprinkling the earth with pearl-like tears, whose affliction was unbearable, seeking the guide of the east, whom they did not have, yet having they sought; Where is the star, the guide of the magi?

But in what manner the star is hidden from them, consider the truth, and see the wonder, and the message. For this reason the star is hidden from them, so that when they asked the unbelieving priests, the mystery of heaven and earth might be made manifest to all. Wherefore after 43.501 all had learned, the star appears again to the magi, until it came and stood over the infant in the cave, or rather in heaven. For where Christ is, there is heaven; for the cave was seen as heaven upon earth. And they, seeing the star, or rather the Savior, rejoiced with great joy, who also, bowing down, worshipped, and bringing forth their gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. Gold as to a king; frankincense as to God; and myrrh as to a mortal; or rather so that they might also signify the burial of the creator and fashioner of all, Christ, whom the heavenly bride Mary bore, the heaven and temple and throne of the Godhead, the unspeakable treasure of paradise. Angels blamed Eve, but now they glorify Mary; she who properly glorified the weakness of women, she who raised the fallen Eve, and sent Adam, who had been cast out of paradise, to the heavens, she who opened the closed paradise, and through a thief planted Adam again.

For through you the middle wall of partition, the enmity, was destroyed, O holy Virgin; through you heavenly peace was given to the world, through you the ends of the earth were enlightened, through you men have become angels, through you men have been called friends, and servants, and children of God, and through you men have been deemed worthy to become fellow-servants and companions of angels; through you heavenly knowledge, and praise is sent up from earth to the heavens; through you men have confidence in heaven before the Most High; through you the cross shone over all the world, on which your infant was hung, Christ our God; through you death is trodden down, and hades is despoiled; through you idols have fallen, and heavenly knowledge is raised up; through you we have known the only-begotten Son of God, whom you bore, all-holy Virgin, our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom all angels and men, worshipping, say, unoriginate the Father, unoriginate the Son, unoriginate the Holy Spirit, glorifying the indivisible and consubstantial Trinity, unto the ages of ages. Amen.

κυμάτων βία τὴν ναῦν ἐπόντιζον, ὧν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ μαργαριτοειδέσι δάκρυσι τὴν γῆν κατέῤῥαινον, ὧν ἀφόρητος ἡ θλίψις, τὸν ἀνατολῶν ζητοῦντες ὁδηγὸν, ὃν οὐκ εἶχον, ἔχοντες ἐζήτουν· Ποῦ ὁ ἀστὴρ ὁ τῶν μάγων ὁδηγός;
