on the seventh, the entrance of angels to God and the exit of angels, on the eighth, praise and sacrifices of angels, on the ninth, prayer and worship of man, on the tenth, inspections of the waters and prayers of celestial and terrestrial beings, on the eleventh, confession and exultation of all, on the twelfth, intercession of men for goodwill. And in the nine hundred and thirtieth year Adam fell asleep on the very day of the transgression, and departed to the earth from which he was taken, leaving behind 33 male sons and 27 daughters. He ruled the race of men throughout his entire life. And his burial took place in the land of Jerusalem, as Josephus recounts. At the same time Cain also died, when his house fell upon him, one year after the death of Adam. Seth after Adam ruled over men. And the Watchers from his race, in the one thousand two hundredth year of the cosmogony, when Jared was in his fortieth, and Seth himself in his seven hundred and seventieth, went astray and came down, and took for themselves wives from the daughters of the sons of men, that is, of Cain, and they begot the giants of renown. And these giants, on the one hand, through the righteous Seth, became strong and very great and exceedingly tall in body size, and monstrous 1.19 and abominable (whence also they received their name), but on the other hand, through the profane Cain, they were mighty and most powerful and staunch in valor, but in character most murderous and most impious and most licentious; whom some also called dragon-footed, either as being bestial in their minds and considering nothing good, or as some relate, because having a war with some who lived in high places, they then crept up against them on hands and feet and bellies like dragons, by whom also many were often killed, being struck from above, they were called dragon-footed. Not a few of these the Most High destroyed, striking them from heaven with balls of fire, that is, thunderbolts; and God afterwards destroyed all the rest, who remained unfeeling and incorrigible, by a flood. These swore on mount Hermoniim to choose for themselves wives from the sons of men, that is, of the race of Cain, and they called the mountain Hermon, because they swore and bound one another with curses on it. These teach their wives sorceries and incantations. And first Azael, their tenth leader (for the leaders of those who descended were two hundred), taught them to make swords and breastplates and every instrument of war, and the things from the metals of the earth, such as gold, silver, and the rest. And each one likewise, one taught adornment of the body, another choice stones and the arts of dyeing, another the roots of herbs, another wisdom and the dissolving of spells, another astronomy and star-gazing, another 1.20 astrology, another divination by air, another signs of the earth, another of the sun and moon. So there was neither a kingdom of the Babylonians nor of the Chaldeans, as seems to Berossus and his followers to the subversion of the divine scriptures, nor a dynasty of the Egyptians, as Manetho falsely says, magnifying the nation of the Egyptians; for the beginning of the kingdom of the Babylonians, that is, the Chaldeans, came from Nebroth, who flourished six hundred and thirty years after the flood. And those who have written otherwise, more mythically, concerning these things, have written by stealing from our divinely inspired scriptures and appropriating them; by which the more simple-minded, paying attention to the rest of their nonsense, are easily harmed. That in the 1488th year of the world Enoch was translated into paradise, being three hundred and sixty-five years old. he pleased God; and he was not found because God translated him. That according to the so-called geographers, one half of the inhabited world is twelve thousand miles in length, and sixteen thousand miles in width. That we know the mountains of Ararat are in Parthia of Armenia; but some say, in Celaenae of Phrygia.
