vigorous, and full of contest. For what communion is there between drunkenness and fighting? between gorging and acting manfully? between perfumes and weapons? between war and revels? You are a soldier of Christ, beloved, arm yourself, do not adorn yourself; you are a noble athlete, act manfully, do not beautify yourself.

Thus let us imitate these saints, thus let us honor these champions, these crowned victors, these friends of God, and having walked the same road as they, we shall obtain the same crowns as they; may it be that we all attain them, by the grace and loving-kindness of our Lord Jesus Christ, with whom be glory to the Father, together with the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

εὔτονον, καὶ ἐναγώνιον. Ποία γὰρ κοινωνία μέθῃ καὶ μάχῃ; γαστρίζεσθαι καὶ ἀνδρίζεσθαι; μύροις καὶ ὅπλοις; πολέμῳ καὶ κώμοις; Στρατιώτης εἶ τοῦ Χριστοῦ, ἀγαπητὲ, ὁπλίζου, μὴ καλλωπίζου· ἀθλητὴς εἶ γενναῖος, ἀνδρίζου, μὴ ὡραΐζου.

Οὕτω μιμησώμεθα τοὺς ἁγίους τούτους, οὕτω τιμήσωμεν τοὺς ἀριστέας, τοὺς στεφανίτας, τοὺς Θεοῦ φίλους, καὶ βαδίσαντες τὴν αὐτὴν αὐτοῖς ὁδὸν τῶν αὐτῶν αὐτοῖς στεφάνων ἐπιτευξόμεθα· ὧν γένοιτο πάντας ἡμᾶς ἐπιτυχεῖν, χάριτι καὶ φιλαν-θρωπίᾳ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, μεθ' οὗ τῷ Πατρὶ δόξα ἅμα τῷ ἁγίῳ Πνεύματι, νῦν καὶ ἀεὶ, καὶ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων.
