Immediately; how? As soon as the word went forth, the disease fled, the leprosy was banished, and the leper was henceforth clean. For this reason he says: Go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them. To whom? To the Jews, so that they may not say that I transgress the law. I healed, and I say, Offer the gift of the law, so that on that day the leper might accuse them, saying, He commanded me to offer a gift according to the law.
And just as Christ did many things for the sake of the Jews, making them without excuse in all things, so also here. Have mercy on me, for my daughter is grievously possessed by a demon. But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and said, Send her away, for she is crying out after us. What then did he say? I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel; so that the Jews may not say, You left us and went outside, and for this reason we did not believe you. Behold, he says, even from the nations they come, and I do not receive them; but you, even as you flee, 52.457 I call, Come to me, all you who are weary, and you do not come; this one I reject, and she remains. A people whom I did not know served me, he says; at the hearing of the ear they obeyed me; and elsewhere: I was made manifest to those who did not seek me, and I was found by those who did not ask for me. -Send her away, for she is crying out after us. Let us see, then, what Christ says.

10. Truly for the shame of the Jews the Lord said these things; for though children
being called, they became dogs. For this reason Paul also says: Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the mutilation; for we are the circumcision. The Gentiles were called dogs, and they became children. My children, for whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you. This praise is an accusation of a Jew. It is not good to take the children's bread and to give it to the little dogs. What then did the woman say? Yes, Lord. O the force of a woman, O the persistence of a soul. The physician says, No, and she says, Yes; the Master says, No; she says, Yes; not accusing or being shameless, but awaiting salvation. It is not good to take the children's bread and to give it to the little dogs. Yes, Lord. You call me a dog, but I call you Lord; you insult me, but I praise you. Yes, Lord; for even the little dogs eat from the crumbs that fall from their masters' table. O the wisdom of a woman; from the example she found a fitting argument. You call me a dog, as a dog I am fed. I do not refuse the reproach; I do not flee the name; let me then receive the dog's food; and she says a thing that happens in common practice. You establish your own words; you called me a dog, give me a crumb; you became an advocate for me in my request; in your refusal show your consent. Yes, Lord; for even the little dogs eat from the crumbs that fall from their masters' table. What then says he who refuses, who drives away, who repels, who says, It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs? who says, I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel? -O woman, great is your faith. Τίσι; Τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις, ἵνα μὴ λέγωσιν ὅτι παραβαίνω τὸν νόμον. Ἐγὼ ἐθεράπευσα, καὶ λέγω, Προσένεγκε τὸ δῶρον τοῦ νόμου, ἵνα ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ὁ λεπρὸς αὐτῶν κατηγορήσῃ λέγων, Ἐμοὶ προσέταξε δῶρον κατὰ νόμον προσενεγκεῖν.

ιʹ. Ὄντως εἰς αἰσχύνην Ἰουδαίων ταῦτα εἴρηκεν ὁ Κύριος· τέκνα γὰρ
καλούμενοι, κύνες ἐγένοντο. ∆ιὰ τοῦτο καὶ Παῦλος λέγει· Βλέπετε τοὺς κύνας, βλέπετε τοὺς κακοὺς ἐργάτας, βλέπετε τὴν κατατομήν· ἡμεῖς γάρ ἐσμεν ἡ περιτομή. Οἱ ἐθνικοὶ κύνες ἐκλήθησαν, καὶ ἐγένοντο τέκνα. Τέκνα μου, οὓς πάλιν ὠδίνω, ἄχρις οὗ μορφωθῇ Χριστὸς ἐν ὑμῖν. Τὸ ἐγκώμιον τοῦτο, Ἰουδαίου κατηγορία ἐστίν. Οὐκ ἔστι καλὸν λαβεῖν τὸν ἄρτον τῶν τέκνων, καὶ δοῦναι τοῖς κυναρίοις. Τί οὖν ἡ γυνή; Ναὶ, Κύριε. Ὢ βία γυναικὸς, ὢ φιλονεικία ψυχῆς. Ὁ ἰατρὸς λέγει, Οὐχὶ, καὶ αὐτὴ λέγει, Ναί· ὁ ∆εσπότης λέγει, Οὔκ· αὐτὴ λέγει, Ναί· οὐ κατηγοροῦσα οὐδὲ ἀναισχυντοῦσα, ἀλλὰ σωτηρίαν ἐκδεχομένη. Οὐκ ἔστι καλὸν λαβεῖν τὸν ἄρτον τῶν τέκνων, καὶ δοῦναι τοῖς κυναρίοις. Ναὶ, Κύριε. Κύνα με καλεῖς, ἐγὼ δέ σε Κύριον καλῶ· σύ με ὑβρίζεις, ἐγὼ δέ σε ὑμνῶ. Ναὶ, Κύριε· καὶ γὰρ τὰ κυνάρια ἐσθίουσιν ἀπὸ τῶν ψιχίων τῶν πιπτόντων ἐκ τῆς τραπέζης τῶν κυρίων αὐτῶν. Ὢ σοφία γυναικός· ἀπὸ τοῦ ὑποδείγματος εὗρε λόγον πρέποντα. Κύνα με καλεῖς, ὡς κύων τρέφομαι. Οὐ παραιτοῦμαι τὸ ὄνειδος· οὐ φεύγω τὴν κλῆσιν· λάβω οὖν τὴν τροφὴν τοῦ κυνός· καὶ λέγει πρᾶγμα ἐν συνηθείᾳ συμβαῖνον. Σὺ τὰ σὰ στῆσον· κύνα με ἐκάλεσας, δός μοι ψιχίον· συνήγορος ἐγένου μοι τῇ αἰτήσει· ἐν τῇ παραιτήσει τὴν συγκατάθεσιν ἐπίδειξον. Ναὶ, Κύριε· καὶ γὰρ τὰ κυνάρια ἐσθίουσιν ἀπὸ τῶν ψιχίων τῶν πιπτόντων ἀπὸ τῆς τραπέζης τῶν κυρίων αὐτῶν.
