he said to him. ACTS. So when they had come together, they asked him, say 31.717 ing, Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel? And he said to them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put in his own power. That it is characteristic of those who are earnest in pleasing God to also ask about what is necessary. Chap. 3. MATTHEW. And his disciples came to him, saying, Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field... And, behold, one came and said to him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? LUKE. Then he said to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come? And after a little; And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do? Likewise the publicans, likewise the soldiers. ACTS. Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? That when asked a question, one must take care to answer worthily. Chap. 4. LUKE. And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said to him, What is written in the law? how do you read? And he answering said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself. And he said to him, You have answered right: this do, and you shall live. TO THE COLOSSIANS. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man. That the judgment is worse for those who understand and do not act; but neither is sinning through ignorance without danger. Chap. 5. LUKE. And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes.

DEFINITION 10. That the end of sin is death.

Chap. 1. JOHN. But he that does not obey the Son shall not see life; but the

wrath of God abides on him. 31.720 TO THE ROMANS. For when you were the servants of sin, you were free from righteousness. What fruit had you then in those things whereof you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. And after a little; For the wages of sin is death... The sting of death is sin. That the end of God's commandment is eternal life. Chap. 2. JOHN. Verily, verily, I say to you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. -But the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak, and I know that his commandment is life everlasting. TO THE ROMANS. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end everlasting life.

DEFINITION 11. That one must not despise the judgments of God, but fear them, even if they do not

have immediate recompense. Chap. 1. MATTHEW. But rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and

body in hell. LUKE. But if that servant says in his heart, My lord delays his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looks not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. JOHN. Behold, you are made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come to you. TO THE EPHESIANS. Let no man deceive you with vain words;

Κεφάλ. Αʹ. ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣ. Ὁ δὲ ἀπειθῶν τῷ Υἱῷ οὐκ ὄψεται τὴν ζωὴν, ἀλλ' ἡ

ὀργὴ τοῦ Θεοῦ μενεῖ ἐπ' αὐτόν. 31.720 ΠΡΟΣ ΡΩΜ. Ὅτε γὰρ δοῦλοι ἦτε τῆς ἁμαρτίας, ἐλεύθεροι ἦτε τῇ δικαιοσύνῃ. Τίνα οὖν καρπὸν εἴχετε τότε, ἐφ' οἷς νῦν ἐπαισχύνεσθε; Τὸ μὲν γὰρ τέλος ἐκείνων θάνατος. Καὶ μετ' ὀλίγα· Τὰ γὰρ ὀψώνια τῆς ἁμαρτίας θάνατος ... Τὸ δὲ κέν τρον τοῦ θανάτου ἡ ἁμαρτία. Ὅτι τέλος ἐντολῆς Θεοῦ ζωὴ αἰώνιος. Κεφάλ. Βʹ. ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣ. Ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ἐάν τις τὸν λόγον τὸν ἐμὸν τηρήσῃ, θάνατον οὐ μὴ θεωρήσῃ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα. -Ἀλλ' ὁ πέμψας με Πα τὴρ, αὐτός μοι ἐντολὴν ἔδωκε, τί εἴπω, καὶ τί λαλήσω, καὶ οἶδα, ὅτι ἡ ἐντολὴ αὐτοῦ ζωὴ αἰώνιός ἐστι. ΠΡΟΣ ΡΩΜ. Νυνὶ δὲ ἐλευθερωθέν τες ἀπὸ τῆς ἁμαρτίας, δουλωθέντες δὲ τῷ Θεῷ, ἔχετε τὸν καρπὸν ὑμῶν εἰς ἁγιασμὸν, τὸ δὲ τέλος ζωὴν αἰώνιον.

ΟΡΟΣ ΙΑ. Ὅτι οὐ δεῖ καταφρονεῖν κριμάτων Θεοῦ, ἀλλὰ φο βεῖσθαι, κἂν μὴ

παραυτίκα τὴν ἀνταπόδοσιν ἔχῃ. Κεφάλ. Αʹ. ΜΑΤΘΑΙΟΣ. Φοβήθητε δὲ μᾶλλον τὸν δυνάμε νον καὶ ψυχὴν καὶ

σῶμα ἀπολέσαι ἐν γεέννῃ. ΛΟΥΚΑΣ. Ἐὰν δὲ εἴπῃ ὁ δοῦλος ἐκεῖνος ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ· Χρονίζει ὁ κύριός μου ἔρχεσθαι· καὶ ἄρξηται τύπτειν τοὺς παῖδας καὶ τὰς παιδίσκας, ἐσθίειν τε καὶ πίνειν, καὶ μεθύσκεσθαι· ἥξει ὁ κύριος τοῦ δούλου ἐκείνου ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ᾗ οὐ προσδοκᾷ, καὶ ἐν ὥρᾳ ᾗ οὐ γινώσκει, καὶ διχοτομήσει αὐτὸν, καὶ τὸ μέρος αὐτοῦ μετὰ τῶν ἀπίστων θήσει. ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣ. Ἴδε, ὑγιὴς γέγονας· μηκέτι ἁμάρ- τανε, ἵνα μὴ χεῖρόν τί σοι γένηται. ΠΡΟΣ ΕΦΕΣ. Μηδεὶς ὑμᾶς ἀπατάτω κενοῖς λόγοις·
