This was he who from the beginning was awakening the hearts of men, and through many was foretelling the day of his incarnate presence; and pressing out darkness, and openly showing to all the eternal light. Walking about among females courageously, that is, in the Churches, courageously and nobly, as he says: "Behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the age." Στ. λβʹ. Or also if you let yourself down into the mind of the Scriptures; or, if you do not have a learner's ear, but are contentious, will you listen? "But if anyone is contentious, we have no such custom." Στ. γʹ. You will not give your wealth to pleasures or to foreign teachings. Drink wine with counsel. Drinking the wine of the true vine, the interpretation of the Scriptures, and the contemplation of existing things, approach with much discernment to the examination of the mind. Στ. ςʹ. Οὗτος ἦν ὁ ἀπ' ἀρχῆς διυπνίζων τὰς καρδίας τῶν ἀνθρώπων, καὶ τὴν ἡμέραν τῆς ἐνσάρκου αὐτοῦ παρουσίας διὰ πολλῶν προμηνύων· καὶ σκότος ἐκθλίβων, καὶ τὸ φῶς αἰώνιον πᾶσι φανερῶς ὑποδεικνύων. Ἐμπεριπατῶν ἐν θηλείαις εὐψύχως, τουτέστιν ἐν ταῖς Ἐκκλησίαις, εὐψύχως καὶ γενναίως, ὥς φησιν· "Ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ μεθ' ὑμῶν εἰμι πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας ἕως τῆς συντελείας τοῦ αἰῶνος." Στ. λβʹ. Ἢ καὶ ἐὰν εἰς τὸν νοῦν τῶν Γραφῶν καθιῇς σεαυτόν· ἢ, ἐὰν μὴ ἔχῃς μαθητικὸν οὖς, ἀλλ' ἀντιλογητικὸς εἶ, ἀκούσῃ; "Εἰ δέ τις φιλόνεικος εἶ, ἡμεῖς τοιαύτην συνήθειαν οὐκ ἔχομεν." Στ. γʹ. Ἡδοναῖς ἢ διδαχαῖς ἀλλοτρίαις τὸν σὸν πλοῦτον μὴ δώσεις. Μετὰ βουλῆς οἰνοπότει. Τὸν τῆς ἀληθινῆς ἀμπέλου πίνων οἶνον, τὴν τῶν Γραφῶν ἑρμηνείαν, καὶ τὴν τῶν ὄντων θεωρίαν, μετὰ πολλῆς προσέρχου διακρίσεως τῇ τῆς διανοίας ἐπισκέψει. Στ. ςʹ. Νῦν λύπην εἶπε τὸν πόνον. Οἱ οὖν διὰ Θεὸν κοπιῶντες καὶ ὀδυνώμενοι, ἐπ' ἂν μεθυσθῶσι τῆς πρὸς τοῦ οἴκου Κυρίου πιότητος, τῶν ὀδυνῶν ἐπιλανθάνονται. Στ. ηʹ. Τὴν προαίρεσίν σου ἔχε εἰς τὸ προσέχειν τοὺς λόγους μου, εἰρημένους ὑπὸ Θεοῦ. Στ. κγʹ. Ἄνεμος βορέας, ὁ διάβολος, διεγείρων καὶ πειράζων τοὺς ἁγίους ὑψηλοὺς αὐτοὺς ὄντας, καὶ μὴ θέλων ἐργάζεσθαι· ἢ ἐγείρων λόγους κατὰ τῶν ἑαυτοῦ δογμάτων. Στ. γʹ. Ὥσπερ οὖν ταῦτα μεταφέρει μᾶλλον ἐπὶ τὸ εὖ ἔχον τὰ ζῶα, οὕτως ἡ ῥάβδος, τουτέστιν ἐπιτιμία, τὸ παράνομον ἔθνος ῥυθμίζει. Στ. ζʹ. Τῶν τοιούτων, φησὶ, περιαίρει μᾶλλον τὴν δυναστείαν, καὶ μήτε πρακτικὴν ἀρχὴν μήτε λογικὴν τούτοις ἐγχείριζε. 39.1645 Στ. ιεʹ. Εἰ ἀπὸ καρπῶν δικαιοσύνης φύεται δένδρον ζωῆς, πᾶς κρύπτων τὴν δικαιοσύνην τῇ ἀδικίᾳ, ἥτις λέγεται χεὶρ, οὐ βρώσεται ἐκ τοῦ τῆς ζωῆς δένδρου. Στ. κγʹ. Τῶν μαθητῶν σου, ἵνα μὴ πρὸς τὴν ἕξιν ἐπάγῃς τὴν διδασκαλίαν. Στ. κβʹ. Τὴν θεωρίαν τῶν γεγονότων, καὶ τὴν θεωρίαν τῆς ἁγίας Τριάδος, ἔνδυμα εἶναι λέγει νοῦ καθαροῦ, ἐκ βύσσου καὶ πορφύρας.
