of the world their words. 10.19 But I say, did Israel not know? First Moses says: I will make you jealous by those who are not a nation, I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding. 10.20 And Isaiah is so bold as to say: I was found by those who did not seek me, I became manifest to those who did not ask for me. 10.21 But to Israel he says: All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people. 11.1 I say then, has God rejected his people? By no means! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe 11.2 of Benjamin. God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the story of Elijah, how he pleads with God 11.3 against Israel? Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have torn down your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek 11.4 my life. But what is God's reply to him? I have kept for myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to Baal. 11.5 So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace. 11.6 has come to be; but if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be 11.7 grace. What then? What Israel sought, it did not obtain, but the 11.8 elect obtained it; but the rest were hardened, as it is written: God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not 11.9 see and ears that they should not hear, down to this very day. And David says: Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them, 11.10 let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see, and bend their backs forever. 11.11 I say then, have they stumbled so as to fall? By no means! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, so as to make them jealous 11.12 them. Now if their transgression is riches for the world, and their failure is riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their full inclusion be. 11.13 Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, 11.14 apostle, I magnify my ministry, in order somehow to make my own people jealous 11.15 flesh and save some of them. For if their rejection 11.16 means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? If the firstfruit is holy, so is the whole lump; and if the root is holy, so are the 11.17 branches. But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among them and became a partaker of the root and of the 11.18 richness of the olive tree, do not boast over the branches. But if you do boast, it is not you that supports the root, but the root that supports you. 11.19-20 You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in." That is true. 11.20 They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. Do not be arrogant, 11.21 but be afraid. For if God did not spare the natural branches, 11.22 neither will he spare you. Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God's kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness; otherwise you too will be cut off. 11.23 And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, 11.24 for God is able to graft them in again. For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, 11.25 be grafted back into their own olive tree. For I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be wise in your own sight, that a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness 11.26 of the Gentiles has come in, and in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written: The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will turn away ungodliness from Jacob. 11.27 And this will be my covenant with them, when I take away their sins. 11.28 As regards
