8. I also summon the other side to the rejoicing, as many as while they acknowledge the God of all,5 and so far are sound in their doctrines, but yet stick fast in their questions touching Providence, and out of the opposite have often chosen the better part, "through the goodness that exhorteth unto reformation"----but who nevertheless, through their meanness of spirit, and their levity, in the "proudness of the ungodly," are kindled and set on fire, neither do bear "the peace of sinners," as the Psalm says, "nor endure the counsel of God, neither do they wait patiently unto the end," being ever slaves of things present, and of things visible, by wonders like these are made strong for the reception of truth.

Καλῶ καὶ τὴν ἑτέραν μοῖραν εἰς τὴν πανήγυριν, ὅσοι, τὸν μὲν τῶν ὅλων ὁμολογοῦντες Θεὸν, καὶ μέχρι τούτου τοὺς λογισμοὺς ὑγιαίνοντες τοῖς δὲ τῆς προνοίας λόγοις οὐκ ἐμβατεύοντες, ἐκ τῶν ἐναντίων πολλάκις τὰ βελτίω διοικουμένης, καὶ τῇ χρηστότητι προκαλουμένης τὴν ἐπανόρθωσιν, ἀλλὰ διὰ πτωχείαν ψυχῆς καὶ κουφότητα, ἐν τῷ ὑπερηφανεύεσθαι τὸν ἀσεβῆ τοὺς λογισμοὺς, ἐμπυριζόμενοί τε καὶ ἀναπτόμενοι, καὶ εἰρήνην ἁμαρτωλῶν οὐ φέροντες, ὃ δὴ φησὶν ὁ ψαλμὸς, οὐδ' ὑπομένοντες τοῦ Θεοῦ τὴν βουλὴν, καὶ πρὸς τὸ πέρας μακροθυμοῦντες: δοῦλοι δὲ ὄντες ἀεὶ τῶν παρόντων καὶ τῶν ὁρωμένων, τοῖς τοιούτοις θαύμασι βεβαιοῦνται πρὸς τὴν ἀλήθειαν.
