of his power, and by the spirit of his mouth, that is, the life-giving and ruling spirit. Hear him. For he who receives him, receives me, the one who sent him, not as a master, but as a father. For he is sent as a man, but as God he abides in me, and I in him. He who does not honor my only-begotten and beloved Son, does not honor the Father, me who sent him. Hear him; for he has the words of eternal life. This is the conclusion of what has taken place, this is the power of the mystery. 19. Then what? He sent Moses and Elijah away to their own places, and appears to the apostles alone, and so they come down from the mountain, saying nothing to anyone of what they had seen or heard. For this the Master commands. For what reason, and on whose account, I shall say. Knowing, I think, that the disciples were imperfect; for they had not yet partaken of the perfect Spirit; lest grief should fill their hearts; lest the madness of envy should drive the betrayer insane. Come then, let us too bring our discourse to a close with the subject. 20. But may you always remember what has been said, bearing in your hearts the beauty of that divine vision, with the fatherly voice ever echoing, This is not a servant, not a messenger, not an angel, but my beloved Son, hear him. Let us hear him, therefore, saying: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart. You shall not murder; but neither shall you be angry with your brother without a cause; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. You shall not commit adultery; but neither shall you gaze upon the beauty of another. You shall not swear falsely; but neither shall you swear at all; but let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; for what is more than this is an invention of the evil one. You shall not bear false witness. You shall not defraud; but also give to the one who asks you, and from the one who wants to borrow from you, do not turn away, and do not hinder the one who takes your things. Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good 96.576 to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you. Judge not, that you be not judged. Forgive, and it will be forgiven you, that you may become sons of your Father, perfect and merciful, as your heavenly Father, because he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. Let us keep these divine commandments with all diligence, so that we too may luxuriate in his divine beauty, being filled with his most sweet taste, now indeed as much as is possible for those burdened with this earthly tabernacle of the body, but then more clearly and more purely, when the righteous shine forth like the sun, when, freed from the necessities of the body, like angels with the Lord they will be incorruptible, at the great and glorious revelation from heaven of him who is our Lord, and God, and Savior, Jesus Christ, to whom be glory and dominion now, and always, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
