having abandoned them, are we turning to this one, which is so precarious and slippery, and I know not where it leads? Or is not the same food suitable for all, but different food for different people according to the difference both of their ages and their conditions; and is the same life profitable for all, or the same reasoning? I for my part would not say this, nor would I agree with those who say it. If then you will be persuaded by me at all, young and old, rulers of peoples and the ruled, monastics and those in the world, bid farewell to superfluous and useless ambitions; and you yourselves, drawing near to God through a safer life, and conduct, and reasonings, will attain to the truth and contemplation from thence, in Christ Jesus our Lord, to whom be the glory for ever and ever. Amen.
