in his name many peoples will be called, and going according to his ways, they will live in them.” 46.232

19. That Herod will be troubled, and all those with him.

Jeremiah says, “In that day, says the Lord, the heart of the

king will perish, and the heart of the rulers, and the priests will be astonished, and the prophets will marvel.”

20. Concerning Baptism.

Ezekiel, “And the Lord said to me: This water that goes out into the

Galilee, will make the waters holy. And it shall be, for every soul, upon which this water comes, it will live and be healed;” Jeremiah, “Behold, like a lion he will come up from the midst of the Jordan.”

21. Concerning the Lord's descent into Egypt.

Isaiah says, “Behold, the Lord sits upon a swift cloud, and will come into

Egypt, and all the handmade things of Egypt will be shaken.” And again, “The Lord will be known to the Egyptians, and they will fear the Lord in that day.” 22. Concerning the Holy Spirit. Isaiah, “And now the Lord has sent me, and his Spirit.” From Exodus, “And he said to Moses: Bring up to me seventy elders, and I will take from the Spirit that is upon you, and I will pour it out upon them, and I will help you.” David, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right Spirit within my inward parts, and do not take your holy Spirit from me, and establish me with a governing Spirit.” And again, “Where shall I go from your Spirit?” Job, “The divine Spirit that made me.” And again, “There is a Spirit in mortals, and it is the breath of the Almighty that teaches me.” And again, “As the Lord lives, who has judged me thus, and the Almighty, who has embittered my soul. But the divine Spirit is present in my nostrils.” Zechariah, “I am among you, and my Spirit stands in your midst.” Solomon, “The Spirit of the Lord has filled the world.” 46.233 Isaiah; “They provoked the holy Spirit, and it turned to be their enemy. The house of Jacob provoked the Spirit of the Lord.” Joel; “And it shall be in the last days, I will pour out from my Spirit upon all flesh,” that is, those who believe, “and upon your sons, and upon your daughters,” and so on. Isaiah; “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me,” and, “Seven spirits shall rest upon him.” And, “The Spirit of the Lord came down, and led them.” And, “The Spirit of knowledge filled Bezalel the architect of the tabernacle; a provoked Spirit, and a Spirit that took up Elijah in a chariot, and was sought twofold by Elisha.” And, “A Spirit shall go forth from me, and I have made every breath.” And, “Behold my chosen servant, my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased, I will put my Spirit upon him.” And, “Woe, apostate children, thus says the Lord: You made a plan not through me, and a covenant not through my Spirit.” And, “There the hinds met, and they saw one another's faces; they passed by in number, and not one of them was left behind, because the Lord commanded them, and his Spirit gathered them.” And that the resurrection is worked through the Spirit, David says; “You will take away their spirit, and they will fail, and they will return to their dust. You will send forth your Spirit, and they will be created, and you will renew the face of the earth.”

Ἰεζεκιὴλ, «Καὶ εἶπε Κύριος πρός με· Τὸ ὕδωρ τοῦτο τὸ ἐκπορευόμενον εἰς τὴν

Γαλιλαίαν, ἁγιάσει τὰ ὕδατα. Καὶ ἔσται, πάσῃ ψυχῇ, ἐφ' ἣν ἂν ἐπέλθῃ τὸ ὕδωρ τοῦτο, ζήσεται καὶ ἰαθήσεται·» Ἱερεμίας, «Ἰδοὺ ὡς λέων ἀναβήσεται ἐκ μέσου τοῦ Ἰορδάνου.»

ΚΑʹ. Περὶ τῆς εἰς Αἴγυπτον τοῦ Κυρίου καθόδου.

Ἡσαΐας λέγει, «Ἰδοὺ Κύριος κάθηται ἐπὶ νεφέλης κούφης, καὶ ἥξει εἰς

Αἴγυπτον, καὶ σεισθήσεται πάντα τὰ χειροποίητα Αἰγύπτου.» Καὶ πάλιν, «Γνωσθήσεται Κύριος τοῖς Αἰγυπτίοις, καὶ φοβηθήσονται Κύριον ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ.» ΚΒʹ. Περὶ τοῦ ἁγίου Πνεύματος. Ἡσαΐας, «Καὶ νῦν Κύριος ἐξαπέσταλκέ με, καὶ τὸ Πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ.» Τῆς Ἐξόδου, «Καὶ εἶπε τῷ Μωϋσεῖ· Ἀνάγαγέ μοι ἑβδομήκοντα πρεσβυτέρους, καὶ λήψομαι ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐπὶ σὲ Πνεύματος, καὶ ἐκχεῶ ἐπ' αὐτοὺς, καὶ ἀντιλήψομαί σε.» ∆αβὶδ, «Καρδίαν καθαρὰν κτίσον ἐν ἐμοὶ, ὁ Θεὸς, καὶ Πνεῦμα εὐθὲς ἐγκαίνισον ἐν τοῖς ἐγκάτοις μου, καὶ τὸ Πνεῦμά σου τὸ ἅγιον μὴ ἀντανέλῃς ἀπ' ἐμοῦ, καὶ Πνεύματι ἡγεμονικῷ στήριξόν με.» Καὶ πάλιν, «Ποῦ πορευθῶ ἀπὸ τοῦ Πνεύματός σου;» Ἰὼβ, «Πνεῦμα θεῖον τὸ ποιῆσάν με.» Καὶ πάλιν, «Πνεῦμά ἐστιν ἐν βροτοῖς, πνοὴ δὲ Παντοκράτορός ἐστιν ἡ διδάσκουσά με.» Καὶ πάλιν, «Ζῇ Κύριος, ὃς οὕτω με κέκρικε, καὶ ὁ Παντοκράτωρ, ὁ πικράνας μου τὴν ψυχήν. Πνεῦμα δὲ θεῖον τὸ περιόν μοι ἐν ῥισί.» Ζαχαρίας, «Ἐγώ εἰμι ἐν ὑμῖν, καὶ τὸ Πνεῦμά μου ἐφέστηκεν ἐν μέσῳ ὑμῶν.» Σολομὼν, «Πνεῦμα Κυρίου πεπλήρωκε τὴν οἰκουμένην.» 46.233 Ἡσαΐας· «Παρώξυναν τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον, καὶ ἐστράφη αὐτοῖς εἰς ἔχθραν. ̔Ο οἶκος τοῦ Ἰακὼβ παρώξυναν τὸ Πνεῦμα Κυρίου.» Ἰωήλ· «Καὶ ἔσται ἐν ταῖς ἐσχάταις ἡμέραις, ἐκχεῶ ἀπὸ τοῦ Πνεύματός μου ἐπὶ πᾶσαν σάρκα,» δηλαδὴ τὴν πιστεύουσαν, «καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς ὑμῶν, καὶ ἐπὶ τὰς θυγατέρας ὑμῶν,» καὶ τὰ ἑξῆς. Ἡσαΐας· «Πνεῦμα Κυρίου ἐπ' ἐμὲ, οὗ εἵνεκεν ἔχρισέ με,» καὶ, «Ἐπαναπαύσεται ἐπ' αὐτὸν ἑπτὰ πνεύματα.» Καὶ, «Κατέβη Πνεῦμα Κυρίου, καὶ ὡδήγησεν αὐτούς.» Καὶ, «Πνεῦμα ἐπιστήμης ἔπλησε Βεσελεὴλ τὸν ἀρχιτέκτονα τῆς σκηνῆς· Πνεῦμα παροξυνόμενον, καὶ Πνεῦμα ἐξᾶραν Ἠλίαν ἐν ἅρματι, καὶ ζητηθὲν παρ' Ἐλισσαίου διπλάσιον.» Καὶ, «Πνεῦμα παρ' ἐμοῦ ἐξελεύσεται, καὶ πνοὴν πᾶσαν ἐγὼ ἐποίησα.» Καὶ, «Ἰδοὺ ὁ παῖς μου ὁ ἐκλεκτὸς, ὁ ἀγαπητός μου, εἰς ὃν εὐδόκησεν ἡ ψυχή μου, θήσω τὸ Πνεῦμά μου ἐπ' αὐτόν.» Καὶ, «Οὐαὶ, τέκνα ἀποστάται, τάδε λέγει Κύριος· Ἐποιήσατε βουλὴν οὐ δι' ἐμοῦ, καὶ συνθήκην οὐ διὰ τοῦ Πνεύματός μου.» Καὶ, «Ἐκεῖ συνήντησαν ἔλαφοι, καὶ εἶδον τὰ πρόσωπα ἀλλήλων· ἀριθμῷ παρῆλθον, καὶ μία αὐτῶν οὐχ ὑπελείφθη, διότι Κύριος ἐνετείλατο αὐταῖς, καὶ τὸ Πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ συνήγαγεν αὐτάς.» Καὶ ὅτι ἡ ἀνάστασις διὰ τοῦ Πνεύματος ἐνεργεῖται, ∆αβὶδ λέγει· «Ἀντανελεῖς τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐκλείψουσι, καὶ εἰς τὸν χοῦν αὐτῶν ἐπιστρέψουσιν. Ἐξαποστελεῖς τὸ Πνεῦμά σου, καὶ κτισθήσονται, καὶ ἀνακαινιεῖς τὸ πρόσωπον τῆς γῆς.»
