instead of the same. He followed, from a declension, instead of he was following. He set, instead of he sat, and he founded. he had stood. They were sitting, instead of they were sitting. and They sit, instead of they sit, poetically. and until, instead of until. But all these have the I from pleonasm except for "one". But note that "sequence" and "prison", even though the one comes from "I string", "I weave together", and the other from "I prevent", "I hinder", are aspirated. For it has been said that derivatives often change the breathings. for example, at the same time, at the same time. I sweat, sweat. road, Odysseus. So therefore also "I string", "sequence". and "I prevent", "prison". The ευ diphthong is unaspirated. prayer. Eule, the leech. fair weather. straight. straight line. fortunate. except for "I sleep", to sleep. "I light", to illuminate, and to set on fire. "I find", and those from it, "I find", "discovery", "a find", "one who finds arguments". "his", instead of "of himself", from "of him" by Doric crasis of εο into the ευ diphthong. as "of me", "my". and "of you", "your". And Homer, "but of the others no one cared for him". The οι diphthong in words of more than one syllable is unaspirated. house. gadfly. "I swell", to swell up. "swelling", the wave. a swelling. "I open", to open. Oeneus, a proper name. wine. "alone", the only. "song", the song. whence also "I wail". and the rest. except for "path", the road. "I rush", to rush on. "such as", the which, and "able", the capable. it is said "in words of more than one syllable" because of "to him", instead of "to him", a pronoun. and "where", instead of where. and "the", a prepositive article of the plural number, which alone is aspirated. but being barytone and aspirated it becomes postpositive. But "sheep", the sheep, is unaspirated, as coming from "ois" by contraction. I found "I wail" aspirated in the Schedographos † of Mouzalon, writing thus. And the painful [sound] of those wailing well. "song", the song, some aspirate, from being sung on "Paths", that is, on roads. and Ptochoprodromos: And delight in the beautiful songs. but they write "I wail" without aspiration, from "alas". 215 The ου diphthong is unaspirated. for example, "threshold", the doorpost. "udder", the breast. scar. with curly hair. "fair wind", the favorable and carrying wind. And Homer, "For them far-shooting Apollo sent a fair following wind." and "mules", the she-mules. and the rest. except for "this", "on account of which", "where" instead of where. and "of whom", instead of of whom. and "whom", instead of whom, in the accusative of the plural. But "ear", the little ear. and "not", the negative particle, is unaspirated.
CONCERNING RHO.
1 The rho beginning any word is aspirated. for example, strength. Romulus. I throw. root.
I flow. and the rest. except for Rharion, a plain. and Rharos, the aborted infant. If rho becomes double in the middle of a word, the first is unaspirated, but the second is aspirated, for example, adverb. sick. I stitch together. and the rest. and the first is unaspirated, because a syllable of a Greek word never ends in an aspiration, but the second is aspirated, because aspiration loves to be at the beginning.
CONCERNING THE CORONIS.
1 It is to be known that the coronis, that it is not placed in all cases of crasis, but when the crasis happens in the joining of two words. for example, the work, the work; the oil, the oil; the word, the word; and I, and I. the others, the others. and similar things. but when the crasis does not happen in the joining of two words, the coronis is not placed. for example, mind, mind; voyage, voyage.
