94 Mt 17, 10-11 Therefore, he will be the forerunner of his second coming around the time of the consummation, when he will also restore all things to a true knowledge, restoring everyone who obeys him. But the scribes, deceiving the people, said that Elijah is coming before the coming of the Christ. And this saying was spread about even among the countless populace, which the disciples are now asking about; how then does he resolve it?

96 Mt 18, 18 He rightly added "and whatever you loose," showing that if they loose those who have repented, what is done has force, since the church in heaven and on earth is one. The one who did not wish the bond of sin to be loosed from himself, but also drew upon himself the bond from the alienation of the saints, this one is also alien to the church in heaven and in this respect is a prisoner also with it; whereas if he should be eager for the loosing, and should obtain the loosing of the saints who have confirmed love upon him as Paul taught, he will also be at home with the church in heaven, having been loosed from the bond of judgment.

97 Mt 19, 23-26 When he himself has risen from the dead, and the descent of the Spirit, through the miracles that are performed, will work in all a sure faith in the resurrection, then you will see many readily despising present things for the sake of future things. Which indeed also happened, as Luke says in the Acts.

98 Mt 19, 29 In order to also receive unending life, which is to be always in enjoyment and in luxury and never to be deprived of good things; for this is true life, since sinners also live; for we all rise, but since they will be in unceasing torments, they are said to be in death, for whom death is much better than such a state.

99 Mt 23, 15 You show great care, he says, so as to lead one of those alien to Israel to piety and make him a proselyte; but when you make this one perfect and most at home in piety, then through your deeds you make him a son of Gehenna.

100 Mt 23, 23-24 You are precise, he says, in demanding tithes so as not to give way on the tithe of even mint or cumin, but you take no account of the care for justice and love for your neighbor and of having a firm faith concerning the divine, which things one must do, and so, if at all, the small things. But now it is the opposite: you are overly occupied with the trivial things of the law, being lovers of gain, which is to strain out the gnat, but you pass over the great things, which is to swallow the camel.

101 Mt 24, 12-15 They say these things were spoken concerning the consummation of the world, not concerning Jerusalem. But providing from near at hand the proof of the truth of the things that would come to pass after a long time, he shifted to the affairs of the Jews and the capture of Jerusalem; for seeing these things turn out just as Jesus said, they were naturally going to believe also concerning the things spoken for later, that they would happen. Therefore he adds, he says, "when you see the abomination of desolation," calling the images of Caesar an abomination of desolation.

102 Mt 24, 29 The wise men of the Greeks who introduce the conflagration of the world accept the things said concerning the sun and moon, but no longer do they also confess the falling of the stars from heaven, as being ignorant of the power of God and that all things follow his will.

103 Mt 24, 48-49 So then, the Lord has put the wicked servant saying, "he is delaying," signifying that they do not sin otherwise than by thinking that the judge is not present and that there will be no judgment at all

94 Mt 17, 10-11 Οὐκοῦν τῆς δευτέρας αὐτοῦ παρουσίας ἔσται πρόδρομος περὶ τὸν τῆς συντελείας καιρόν, ὅτε καὶ ἀποκαταστήσει πάντα πρὸς ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθῆ, πάντα τὸν πειθόμενον αὐτῷ ἀποκαθιστάς. οἱ δὲ γραμματεῖς ἀπατῶντες τὸν λαὸν ἔλεγον, ὅτι πρὸ τῆς τοῦ Χριστοῦ παρουσίας ἔρχεται Ἠλίας. καὶ περιεφέρετο ὁ λόγος οὗτος καὶ ἐν τῷ ἀπείρῳ δήμῳ, ὃ καὶ ἐρωτῶσιν νῦν οἱ μαθηταί· πῶς οὖν αὐτὸ λύει;
