I say to you, they have received their reward. Therefore, so that we might not suffer this, he commands his disciples and through them us: Take heed that you do not do your almsgiving or your prayer or your fasting before men; for if not, you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Thus he commands to turn away from and to flee <these mortals> and praises from mortals and the glory that fades and flees from us, but to seek that alone, whose beauty it is not possible to speak nor end to find; through which we ourselves will be able to glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit both now and always and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

λέγω ὑμῖν, ἀπέχουσι τὸν μισθὸν αὐτῶν. ἵνα οὖν μὴ τοῦτο πάθωμεν, παραγγέλλει τοῖς μαθηταῖς καὶ δι' ἐκείνων ἡμῖν· Βλέπετε μὴ ποιήσητε τὴν ἐλεημοσύνην ὑμῶν ἢ τὴν εὐχὴν ἢ τὴν νηστείαν ἔμπροσθεν τῶν ἀνθρώπων· εἰ δὲ μή γε, μισθὸν οὐκ ἔχετε παρὰ τῷ πατρὶ ὑμῶν τῷ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς. οὕτως ἀποστρέφεσθαι κελεύει καὶ φεύγειν <τοὺς θνητοὺς τούτους> καὶ παρὰ θνητῶν ἐπαίνους καὶ τὴν μαραινομένην καὶ φεύγουσαν ἡμᾶς δόξαν, ζητεῖν δὲ μόνην ἐκείνην, ἧς οὐδὲ κάλλος ἔστιν εἰπεῖν οὐδὲ πέρας εὑρεῖν· δι' ἧς καὶ αὐτοὶ δυνησόμεθα δοξάζειν πατέρα καὶ υἱὸν καὶ ἅγιον πνεῦμα νῦν τε καὶ ἀεὶ καὶ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων. ἀμήν.
