of prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do they gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? So every good tree bears good fruit; but a corrupt tree bears evil fruit, and so forth. LUKE. And their scribes and the Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying: Why do you eat and drink with publicans and sinners? And Jesus answering said to them: They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. 2 TIMOTHY. No one serving as a soldier entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who has chosen him to be a soldier. And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
RULE 27. That one must not be likened to those who are strangers to the Lord's teaching; but imitate God and His saints according to the power given to us by Him.
Chapter 1. MATTHEW. You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over
them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to be first among you, shall be your servant; and whoever desires to be first 31.748 among you, shall be your slave; just as the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. TO THE ROMANS. Be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God. 1 TO THE CORINTHIANS. Be imitators of me, as I also am of Christ.
RULE 28. That one must not be carried away simply or without examination by those who feign the truth; but from the character given to us by Scripture to know each one.
Chapter 1. MATTHEW. But beware of false prophets, who
come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. By their fruits you will know them. JOHN. By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. 1 TO THE CORINTHIANS. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking in the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed."
RULE 29. That each one must confirm his own profession by his own
works. Chapter 1. JOHN. The very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the
Father has sent me. If I do not do the works of my Father, do not believe me; but if I do, though you do not believe me, believe my works; that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in him. 2 TO THE CORINTHIANS. Giving no offense in anything, that the ministry be not blamed. But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, and so forth.
RULE 30. That one must not profane holy things by mixing them with things for common
use.
