and to keep your holy commandments. I thank you, because you have given me to live and to know you and to worship, my God; for this is life, to know you the only God, creator and maker of all things, unbegotten, uncreated, without beginning, alone, and your son begotten from you, and the All-Holy Spirit proceeding, the all-praised triadic monad, whom to piously worship and serve (48) is beyond all other glory, whether you say earthly or heavenly. For what glory of angels, or of archangels, dominions, Cherubim, and Seraphim, and of all other heavenly hosts, or light of immortality, or joy, or illumination of immaterial life is there, if not the one light of the Holy Trinity, divided threefoldly undividedly, which is one in three persons, known unknowingly, as much as it wills? For it is not possible for a creature to know the creator in such a way, or to see him wholly with the mind, as he knows himself according to nature; but according to grace all angels and every created nature see and understand, not comprehending, but perceiving, insofar as the light wills to be known or to appear to the blind or even to those who see at all; for indeed the eye does not see without light, but also receives from the light the ability to see, because by it it was also created. Whether you speak of the incorporeal or the corporeal, you will find that God has made all things. Whatever things in the heavens you may hear of, things on the earth and things in the abysses, for all of these there is one life and glory, one desire and one kingdom, wealth, joy, crown, victory, peace and all seemliness, which is the knowledge of the beginning and cause, from which all things were brought forth and came to be. (49) This is the constitution of things above and things below, this is the order of all intelligible things, this is the servitude of all visible things; by this the angels obtained a firm standing, having received greater knowledge and fear, when they saw Satan falling and those with him led away by conceit;
