Λʹ. A Hymn to God. You, the incorruptible monarch Grant [me] to praise, grant [me] to sing, To the king, the master; Through whom is hymn, through whom is praise, Through whom is the chorus of Angels, Through whom are the unceasing ages, 509 Through whom the sun shines forth, Through whom is the course of the moon, Through whom is the great beauty of the stars, Through whom venerable man Received the lot to know the divine, Being a rational creature. For You created all things, Providing order to each, And holding them together by providence. You spoke a word, it became a deed. Your Word is God the Son; For He is of one substance, Of equal honor with the one who begot, Who fitted all things together, That He might reign over all. And embracing all things, The divine Holy Spirit With providence guards them. I will call You a living Trinity, One and only monarch, A nature unchanging, without beginning, A nature of unspoken substance, A mind of unattainable wisdom, An unfailing power of the heavens, Without beginning, without end, 510 A light that cannot be looked upon, Yet watching over all things, Ignorant of no depth From the earth to the abyss. Father, be merciful to me. To serve throughout all This object of worship, grant me And my sins cast away, Cleansing my conscience From all malice, That I may glorify the divine Raising holy hands, That I may bless Christ, Bending the knee I may beseech To then receive me, a servant, When He comes reigning. Father, be merciful to me, May I find mercy and grace; For glory and grace are Yours To the unmeasured age. ΛΑʹ. Another Hymn. Glory to God the Father, and to the Son, the all-king; 511 Glory to the all-praised, all-holy Spirit. The Trinity is one God, who created and filled all things, Heaven with heavenly beings, earth with earthly ones; The sea, and rivers, and springs He filled with watery creatures, Giving life to all from His own spirit; That all creation might hymn the wise creator, Who alone is the cause of living and of remaining. But let rational nature especially sing throughout all, To a great king, to a good father. With spirit, and soul, and tongue, and mind, Grant that I too may purely glorify You, O Father. ΛΒʹ. An Evening Hymn. We now bless You, my Christ, Word of God, 512 Light from unbegotten Light, And steward of the Spirit, Of the threefold light into one Glory gathered together; You who dispelled the darkness, You who established the light, That in light you might create all things, And the unstable matter You might set into a cosmos of forms, And the present good order; You who enlightened the mind of man With both reason and wisdom, Of the brightness from above And below placing an image, That in light it might see the light, And become wholly light. You with luminaries the heaven You have illumined with various kinds. You night and day To yield gently to each other 513 You have ordered, honoring a law Of brotherhood and friendship. And for the one you have stopped the toils Of the much-toiling flesh; For the other you have raised it to work, And to deeds dear to you, That fleeing the darkness We may reach the day, The day not dissolved By the gloomy night. May you cast a light Sleep upon my eyelids, So that the hymning tongue may not For a long time be deadened. Nor may Your creation be silent, which sings antiphonally with the angels. And with You, let my bed examine pious thoughts, And may the night not convict any of the foul things of the day, Nor may the dreams, the playthings of night, cause alarm; But may the mind, even without the body, Speak to you, O God, To the Father, and to the Son, 514 And to the Holy Spirit, To whom be honor, glory, power, For ever and ever. Amen. ΛΓʹ. Thanksgiving. Thanks to You, O king of all, and maker of all. Heaven was filled with Your glory, and all the earth With Your wisdom. God the Son, Your Word, created all things. Your Holy Spirit supplies life to all. Be merciful to the world, O divine Trinity; and be merciful to us, O Son of God according to the spirit, and of man according to the flesh, You who on the cross endured to hasten death, As a mortal; but on the third day you left the gates of Hades, As God; of death

Καὶ τῇ μὲν ἔπαυσας κόπους Τῆς πολυμόχθου σαρκός· Τῇ δ' ἤγειρας εἰς ἔργον, Καὶ πράξεις τάς σοι φίλας, Ἵνα τὸ σκότος φυγόντες Φθάσωμεν εἰς ἡμέραν, Ἡμέραν τὴν μὴ νυκτὶ Τῇ στυγνῇ λυομένην. Σὺ μὲν βάλοις ἐλαφρὸν Ὕπνον ἐμοῖς βλεφάροις, Ὡς μὴ γλῶσσαν ὑμνῳδὸν Ἐπὶ πολὺ νεκροῦσθαι. Μήτ' ἀντίφωνον ἀγγέλων Πλάσμα σὸν ἡσυχάζειν. Σὺν σοὶ δὲ κοίτη εὐσεβεῖς Ἐννοίας ἐταζέτω, Μηδέ τι τῶν ῥυπαρῶν Ἡμέρας νὺξ ἐλέγχῃ, Μηδὲ παίγνια νυκτὸς Ἐνύπνια θροείτω· Νοῦς δὲ καὶ σώματος δίχα Σοὶ, Θεὲ, προσλαλείτω, Τῷ Πατρὶ, καὶ τῷ Υἱῷ, 514 Καὶ τῷ ἁγίων Πνεύματι, Ὧ τιμὴ, δόξα, κράτος, Εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας. Ἀμήν. ΛΓʹ. Εὐχαριστήριον. Σοὶ χάρις, ὦ πάντων βασιλεῦ, πάντων δὲ ποιητά. Οὐρανὸς ἐπλήσθη δόξης σέο, πᾶσά τε γαῖα Σῆς σοφίης. Θεὸς Υἱὸς ὁ σὸς Λόγος ἔκτισε πάντα. Σὸν ἅγιον Πνεῦμα ζωὴν πάντεσσι χορηγεῖ. Ἱλήκοις κόσμῳ θεία Τριάς· ἵλαθι δ' ἡμῖν, Υἱὲ Θεοῦ κατὰ πνεῦμα, καὶ ἀνθρώπου κατὰ σάρκα, Ὅστις ἐπὶ σταυροῖο μόρον τέτληκας ἐπισπεῖν, Οἷα βροτός· τριτάτῃ δὲ πύλας λίπες ἀϊδονῆος, Οἷα Θεός· θανάτου
