of a leper, a woman came to him having an alabaster flask of very precious ointment, and she poured it on his head as he was reclining. But when his disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying: To what purpose is this waste of the ointment? For this could have been sold for a great price, and given to the poor. But when Jesus understood it, he said to them: Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for me. ACTS. Concerning Lydia: And when she was baptized, and her household, she begged us, saying: If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay. And she constrained us.
RULE 38. That a Christian must make his reception of the brethren also
quiet and rather simple. Chapter 1. JOHN. One of his disciples, Andrew,
Simon's brother, said to him: There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two small fish; but what are they among so many? And Jesus said: Make the people sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed to those who were sitting down. Likewise also of the fish as much as they wanted. LUKE. Now a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard his word. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went to him and said: Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell 31.760 her therefore to help me. And Jesus answered and said to her: Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; but few things are needed, or one. But Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.
RULE 39. That one must not be changeable, but steadfast in the faith, and
unmovable from the good things in the Lord. Chapter 1. MATTHEW. But he who was sown on the rocky places, this is he who hears the word
and immediately receives it with joy. Yet he has no root in himself, but is temporary; but when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. 1 CORINTHIANS. Therefore, my brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. TO GALATIANS. I am amazed that you are so quickly turning away from him who called you in the grace of Christ to a different Gospel.
RULE 40. That one must not tolerate those who teach other doctrines, even if they fashion themselves
for the deception or testing of the uncertain. Chapter 1. MATTHEW. See that no one leads you astray. For many will come
in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and they will lead many astray. LUKE. Beware of the scribes who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, and the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts; who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation. TO GALATIANS. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach a gospel to you other than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

Ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ, ἠγανάκτησαν, λέγοντες· Εἰς τί ἡ ἀπώλεια αὕτη τοῦ μύρου; Ἠδύνατο γὰρ τοῦτο πραθῆναι πολλοῦ, καὶ δοθῆναι πτωχοῖς. Γνοὺς δὲ ὁ Ἰη σοῦς, εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τί κόπους παρέχετε τῇ γυ ναικί; Ἔργον γὰρ καλὸν εἰργάσατο εἰς ἐμέ. ΠΡΑΞΕΙΣ. Περὶ τῆς Λυδίας· Ὡς δὲ ἐβαπτίσθη, καὶ ὁ οἶκος αὐτῆς, παρεκάλεσε λέγουσα· Εἰ κε κρίκατέ με πιστὴν τῷ Κυρίῳ εἶναι, εἰσελθόντες εἰς τὸν οἶκόν μου, μείνατε. Καὶ παρεβιάσατο ἡμᾶς.
ΟΡΟΣ ΛΗʹ. Ὅτι δεῖ τὸν Χριστιανὸν καὶ τὴν εἰς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς δεξίωσιν
ἀθόρυβον καὶ λιτοτέραν ποιεῖσθαι. Κεφάλ. Αʹ. ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣ. Λέγει αὐτῷ εἷς τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ, Ἀνδρέας ὁ
ἀδελφὸς Σίμωνος· Ἔστι παιδάριον ἓν ὧδε, καὶ ἔχει πέντε ἄρτους κριθίνους καὶ δύο ὀψάρια· ἀλλὰ ταῦτα τί ἐστιν εἰς τοσούτους; Εἶπε δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ποιήσατε τοὺς ἀνθρώπους ἀναπεσεῖν. Ἦν δὲ χόρτος πολὺς ἐν τῷ τόπῳ. Ἀνέπεσον οὖν οἱ ἄνδρες τὸν ἀριθμὸν ὡσεὶ πεν τακισχίλιοι. Ἔλαβε δὲ τοὺς ἄρτους ὁ Ἰησοῦς, καὶ εὐχαριστήσας, διέδωκε τοῖς ἀνακειμένοις. Ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ ἐκ τῶν ὀψαρίων ὅσον ἤθελον. ΛΟΥΚΑΣ. Γυνὴ δέ τις ὀνόματι Μάρθα ὑπεδέξατο αὐτὸν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὑτῆς. Καὶ τῇδε ἦν ἀδελφὴ καλουμένη Μαρία, ἣ καὶ παρακαθίσασα παρὰ τοὺς πόδας τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, ἤκουε τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ. Ἡ δὲ Μάρθα περιεσπᾶτο περὶ πολλὴν διακονίαν. Ἐπιστᾶσα δὲ εἶπε· Κύριε, οὐ μέλει σοι, ὅτι ἡ ἀδελφή μου μόνην με κατέλιπε διακονεῖν; Εἰπὲ 31.760 οὖν αὐτῇ, ἵνα μοι συναντιλάβηται. Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Μάρθα, Μάρθα, μερι μνᾷς καὶ τυρβάζῃ περὶ πολλά· ὀλίγων δέ ἐστι χρεία ἢ ἑνός. Μαρία δὲ τὴν ἀγαθὴν μερίδα ἐξελέξατο, ἥτις οὐκ ἀφαιρεθήσεται ἀπ' αὐτῆς.
ΟΡΟΣ ΛΘʹ. Ὅτι οὐ δεῖ εὐμετάθετον εἶναι, ἀλλὰ ἑδραῖον ἐν τῇ πίστει, καὶ
ἀμετάθετον ἀπὸ τῶν ἐν Κυρίῳ καλῶν. Κεφάλ. Αʹ. ΜΑΤΘΑΙΟΣ. Ὁ δὲ ἐπὶ τὰ πετρώδη σπαρεὶς, οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ τὸν λόγον
ἀκούων, καὶ εὐθὺς μετὰ χαρᾶς λαμβάνων αὐτόν. Οὐκ ἔχει δὲ ῥίζαν ἐν ἑαυτῷ, ἀλλὰ πρόσκαιρός ἐστι· γενομένης δὲ θλίψεως ἢ διωγμοῦ διὰ τὸν λόγον, εὐθὺς σκαν δαλίζεται. ΠΡΟΣ ΚΟΡ. αʹ. Ὥστε, ἀδελφοί μου, ἑδραῖοι γίνεσθε, ἀμετακίνητοι, περισσεύοντες ἐν τῷ ἔργῳ τοῦ Κυρίου πάντοτε. ΠΡΟΣ ΓΑΛΑΤ. Θαυ μάζω, ὅτι οὕτω ταχέως μετατίθεσθε ἀπὸ τοῦ κα λέσαντος ὑμᾶς ἐν χάριτι Χριστοῦ εἰς ἕτερον Εὐαγγέλιον.
ΟΡΟΣ Μʹ. Ὅτι οὐ δεῖ ἑτεροδιδασκαλούντων ἀνέχεσθαι, κἂν σχηματίζωνται
πρὸς ἀπάτην ἢ ἔλεγχον τῶν ἀβεβαίων. Κεφάλ. Αʹ. ΜΑΤΘΑΙΟΣ. Βλέπετε μή τις ὑμᾶς πλανήσῃ. Πολλοὶ γὰρ ἐλεύσονται
ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου, λέ γοντες, ὅτι Ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ Χριστός· καὶ πολλοὺς πλανήσουσιν. ΛΟΥΚΑΣ. Προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν γραμματέων τῶν θελόντων περιπατεῖν ἐν στολαῖς, καὶ φιλούντων ἀσπασμοὺς ἐν ταῖς ἀγοραῖς, καὶ πρωτοκαθεδρίας ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς, καὶ πρω τοκλισίας ἐν τοῖς δείπνοις· οἳ κατεσθίουσι τὰς οἰκίας τῶν χηρῶν, καὶ προφάσει μακρὰ προ σεύχονται. Οὗτοι λήψονται περισσότερον κρῖμα. ΠΡΟΣ ΓΑΛ. Ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐὰν ἡμεῖς, ἢ ἄγγελος ἐξ οὐρανοῦ εὐαγγελίζηται ὑμῖν, παρ' ὃ εὐηγγελισά μεθα ὑμῖν, ἀνάθεμα ἔστω. Ὡς προειρήκαμεν, καὶ ἄρτι πάλιν λέγω· Εἴ τις ὑμᾶς εὐαγγελίζεται παρ' ὃ παρελάβετε, ἀνάθεμα ἔστω.
