One did not seek the other, because the Lord commanded them and his spirit gathered them.” 18.55 But Paul to the Corinthians: “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you,” and again: “the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit”, and again: “but to us God has revealed it through his Spirit.” 18.56 At other times they name only the Son, as when Isaiah prophesies: “And now, Lord, you are our father; we are the clay, and all are the work of your hands,” and Paul to the Galatians: “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” 18.57 At other times they proclaim the Only-begotten with the Holy Spirit, as when Paul writes to the Corinthians: “but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God,” 18.58 and to the Romans: “I speak the truth in Christ, I do not lie, my conscience bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit,” 18.59 and again: “For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you did not receive.” 18.60 And at other times he makes mention of the Holy Spirit alone, as when Isaiah prophesies: “They were disobedient and provoked the Holy Spirit,” and again: “A spirit from the Lord came down and led them”; 18.61 and Paul writes to the Corinthians: “But the carnal man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God.” 18.62 and as Stephen says in the Acts: “You resist the Holy Spirit,” and again: “We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit,” just as we are generally accustomed to say: “We are alone here, and God.” 18.63 And the Savior in John makes mention of the divine Spirit alone, saying: “But when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth.” 18.64 And the Acts likewise attest to this: “While Peter was thinking about the vision, the Holy Spirit said to him: Arise, go down and go with them, doubting nothing, for I have sent them,” and again: “Thus says the Holy Spirit: Set apart for me Paul and Barnabas for the work to which I have called them.” and again the Holy Spirit said to Peter: “Arise, go” to the house of Cornelius. 18.65 And again the elegantly composed Acts of the Apostles furnish a discourse with such a word; for they contain: “Then Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to him,” and also: “For Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to the people.” 18.66 Likewise is signified the equilibrium and equivalence of the all-honorable hypostases also in the fact that the Master God the Word, through his aforementioned all-hymned voice at the baptism, preserved the equality of honor for himself and for the Holy Spirit with respect to the Father; 18.67 because of which the sacred books sometimes make mention first of the Father and thus of the Son or of the Holy Spirit, and sometimes they make mention first of the Son on account of the indivisibility of the nature and the indifference of the theology, 18.68 as when Job speaks, clearly declaring the Trinity: 18.68 “As the Lord lives, who has thus judged me, and the Almighty who has embittered my soul; surely while my breath is still in me, and the divine Spirit is in my nostrils.” the life-giving Holy Spirit, he says, and that which still makes me breathe. 18.69 and as when Paul writes his second letter to the Thessalonians: “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, comfort your hearts,” and to the Galatians: “Paul, an apostle, not from man nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father,” and to the Corinthians, as was said before: “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit.” 18.70 And the Savior says: “We will come, I and the Father, and a dwelling with him
