righteousness, but many are the judgments of God concerning which it is written, The judgments of the Lord are true, justified altogether, it is necessary that the righteousnesses also be many. And just as he is righteous, so also he beholds uprightness; and by uprightness you will mean a mind that is regulated according to the right reason; this he sees, rejoicing in those who possess it. it might also be said concerning uprightness, harmoniously with the second understanding concerning righteousnesses, which exists in his unsearchable judgments, which his countenance beholds because he very much approves of it; for God appears, being present in the works of providence and in the results of the judgments.
Ps 11,1 Humanity having been filled with deceit and wickedness so that there was no mercy
and truth and knowledge of God on the earth, for the destruction of the existing harm there was a need of the Savior's sojourn among us. 76 Ps 11,2 To this you will take what is in Jeremiah; Each one will mock his neighbor, they will not speak truth; their tongue has learned to speak lies. Why did it not say "the truth" but "the truths"? on the one hand, because of the different dishonesties in transactions, on the other hand, because of the false opinions in doctrines. 77 Ps 11,5 For one must not think that the members of the body are destroyed but their deceitful use and the boastful speech; for indeed in Proverbs it is said, Put away from yourself a crooked mouth, and put unjust lips far from you. Our lips are our own; who is lord over us? From this audacity the wicked man, prospering in obtaining what he desires, utters the voice that is in Job, And he says to the Lord, Depart from me, I do not want to know your ways; what is the Almighty, that we should serve him? For these too, thinking that they themselves are the cause of their own prosperity, say to the Lord, Depart; do not show me your ways; for I do not wish to know them; for what more than us do you have that you are mighty, that we should serve you? 78 Ps 11,6 While the wicked are proud, so as to boast of a boastful tongue and deceitful lips, the poor suffer and the needy groan, not bearing their tyranny. For this reason the Lord says, Now I will arise, so that, having placed my counsel in salvation, I will speak boldly in it against those who act insolently and arrogantly toward their inferiors; and I will release the poor and needy from suffering and groaning. And in these cases you will call poor and needy those not able to defend themselves on account of their present weakness or on account of the wickedness that leads to such a state. These have become superior to suffering and groaning, since the Lord arose at the time of his sojourn and came to us, so that the salvation of those who have been made free from suffering and groaning might be revealed. Thus it is fitting to hear in relation to the preceding things: Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? After this was said, speaking boldly he says next, I thank God through Jesus Christ. For it is shown through these things that Jesus Christ, the one who delivered the one suffering, on account of which he had a body of death, is the one who said, Now I will arise, says the Lord. It occurred to some to say that the "poor" are those who have fallen from wealth, while the "needy" are those who have their living from the labor that comes through work; and according to this understanding, the poor man is of necessity needy, but the reverse is not true, that the needy man is poor. And perhaps indeed what was said about the poor man will be established, also from scripture for it is said, The rich have become poor, and, That we have become very poor; in agreement with these things will also be taken what was said about the Savior, How, though he was rich, for our sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty we might become rich. And what is said about the needy also agrees, the phrase From the groaning of the needy, who are always groaning and lamenting over the toil that comes from being in want
