where it is said, And suddenly the Lord, whom you seek, will come to his temple, and the angel of the covenant, whom you desire. Ps. From the 1st of Kings. From the prayer of Hannah. 18. The Lord went up into the heavens, and thundered; he himself will judge the ends of the earth, and he will give strength to our kings, and will exalt the horn of his anointed. The Lord, the Word of God, who descended from the heavens, he himself again 54 has ascended into the heavens; and having ascended, he thundered by his own divine power the evangelical proclamation, so that it became heard throughout the whole world; and he himself will judge the ends of the earth and those who dwell up to them, as he has received all judgment from the Father; but he also gave strength to his own disciples, both apostles and prophets, and to our kings, and exalted the horn of his anointed one, that is of the people, so called by participation in the anointed one, or of the humanity which he assumed, whose horn was the divinity exalted according to the holy apostle; and in the eighty-eighth Psalm God clearly says something similar to what is here about the Christ, And in my name his horn shall be exalted. Ps. 19. And a man of God came to Eli, and said, Thus says the Lord, the Lord; and in what follows; and I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do all that is in my heart and in my soul; and I will build him a sure house, and he will walk before my anointed one all the days; and it shall be that everyone who is left in your house will come and bow down to him for a silver obol, and for one loaf of bread, saying, Put me, I pray, into one of your priestly offices, to eat a piece of bread. No one else but only the priest of the Most High God according to the order of Melchizedek, Jesus Christ our Savior, whom we have as a great high priest, according to the apostle, who has passed through the heavens, has done all things that are in the heart of the Father, having become obedient to him 55 even unto death; wherefore the Father also, having raised him, built him a sure house, the church composed of rational and living and truly faithful stones; and to him come to worship those who have believed in him, not turning away from a silver obol, neither physically the widow contributing her mite for the assistance of the needy, nor indeed in thought the soul that rests on faith alone, or that contributes according to the power of its intelligible possessions those things that contribute to the edification and benefit of the rest; For he chose the foolish things of the world and the weak and poor, and the despised, and the things that are not, not despising such souls; but as the philanthropic Word of God, he also accepts these for their zeal, and by divine judgment he assigns them according to their worth to different mansions of his priestly offices, deeming them worthy of the bread of eternal life from himself. And the phrase, "and he will walk before my anointed one all the days," is said concerning the saints in the church, they also being called "anointed," according to the verse, "Touch not my anointed ones"; for to these it was said by the Savior also in the Gospel, "Behold, I am with you all the days, even to the end of the age." But since the passages require more explanation, we shall be content with these things that have been said as briefly as possible. 56 Ps. Of Kings 2. the Lord through Nathan says these things also to David after many others. 20. And it shall be, when your days are fulfilled, and you sleep with your fathers, that I will raise up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will prepare his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish his throne forever. I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. And if his iniquity comes, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the sons of men; But my mercy I will not take from them, as I took it from those whom I removed from before my face. And his house shall be made sure, and his kingdom forever before me; and his throne shall be set up
