gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single cubit to his lifespan? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin. Yet I say to you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be 31.772 anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things. for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. LUKE. The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry,” and so on. TO TIMOTHY 1. As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. That one must care for and be anxious about the need of the brothers according to the will of the Lord. Chapter 2. MATTHEW. ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ And after a little: ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ JOHN. Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” and so on. TO CORINTHIANS 1. Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also are to do. On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come. That he who is able, by working, ought to give to those who have need. For he who is not willing to work was judged not worthy even to eat. Chapter 7. MATTHEW. The laborer deserves his food. ACTS. In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ TO EPHESIANS. Let the thief no longer 31.773 steal; but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. TO THESSALONIANS 2. For when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.

RULE 49. That one must not go to law even concerning those things that are for the necessary covering

of the body. Chapter 1. LUKE. To one who strikes you on the right cheek, offer also the

other; and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. TO CORINTHIANS 1. Does anyone dare, having a matter against another, to be judged before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? And after a little: To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you, because you have lawsuits with
