you will be able to recover again the things that were corrupted, and to add to them another crop that is not small. But having considered all these things, shake off the dust, rise up from the earth, and you will be fearsome to the adversary. For he indeed cast you down, as one who would not rise again henceforth; but if he sees you lifting up your hands against him again, being struck unexpectedly, he will be more hesitant to trip you up again. What am I saying? And you yourself will be more secure against receiving such a wound ever again. For if the misfortunes of others are sufficient to teach us, how much more those which we ourselves have endured. Which thing I expect to see quickly upon your head, and that again by the impulse of God you will become brighter and show so much virtue, as even to preside over others there; only do not despair, nor fall back. For I will not cease enjoining this upon you beyond all reason, and wherever I may see you and wherever I may go, and stirring you up; and if you listen to this, you will no longer need other remedies.

τὰ διαφθαρέντα ἀνακτήσασθαι δυνήσῃ πάλιν, καὶ ἑτέραν αὐτοῖς προσθεῖναι φορὰν οὐ μικράν. Ἀλλ' ἅπερ ἅπαντα λογισάμενος ἀποτίναξαι τὸν χοῦν, ἀναστῆθι ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς, καὶ φοβερὸς ἔσῃ τῷ ἀνταγωνιστῇ. Αὐτὸς μὲν γάρ σε κατέβαλεν, ὡς οὐκ ἀναστησόμενον λοιπόν· ἂν δὲ ἴδῃ πάλιν τὰς χεῖρας ἀνταίροντά σε, ἀπροσδοκήτως πληγείς, ὀκνηρότερος ἔσται πρὸς τὸ ὑποσκελίσαι πάλιν. Τί λέγω; Καὶ αὐτὸς ἀσφαλέστερος ἔσῃ πρὸς τὸ μηκέτι τραῦμα τοιοῦτο λαβεῖν. Εἰ γὰρ αἱ τῶν ἄλλων ἡμᾶς ἱκαναὶ παιδεῦσαι συμφοραί, πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἃς ὑπεμείναμεν αὐτοί. Ὅπερ καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς σῆς προσδοκῶ ταχέως ὄψεσθαι κεφαλῆς, καὶ πάλιν τῇ τοῦ θεοῦ ῥοπῇ φαιδρότερόν σε γενέσθαι καὶ τοσαύτην ἐπιδείξασθαι τὴν ἀρετήν, ὡς καὶ ἑτέρων προστῆναι ἐκεῖ· μόνον μὴ ἀπογνῷς, μηδὲ ἀναπέσῃς. Τοῦτο γάρ σοι καὶ παρὰ πάντα λόγον καὶ ὅπου δ' ἂν ἴδω καὶ ὅπου δ' ἂν ἀπίω καὶ διεγερῶν οὐ παύσομαι ἐπιστέλλων· κἂν τοῦτο ἀκούσῃς, οὐκέτι δεήσῃ φαρμάκων ἑτέρων.
