And the demons, being amazed, said: We know who you are, the Holy One of God; in whom those who have come to be will be able to send up the hymn fitting for the most perfectly perfected. For what is more blessed than being united to him, and through him to the Father? But it is necessary, looking also to the prophets and apostles and martyrs, to hymn their God, who granted to men such an abundance of good men. Praise him according to the multitude of his greatness. For each of his creations requires the greatest praise in hymns; for of his greatness there is no end; but he does not say to render a hymn equivalent to them; for it is impossible; but he requires what is according to one's ability, understanding the multitude of his greatness.

καταπλαγέντες καὶ δαίμονες ἔλεγον· Οἴδαμέν σε τίς εἶ ὁ ἅγιος τοῦ Θεοῦ· ἐν ᾧ οἱ γενόμενοι, τὸν πρέποντα τοῖς ἄκρως τετελειωμένοις ὕμνον ἀναπέμψαι δυνήσονται. Τί γὰρ μακαριώτερον ἑνωθέντος αὐτῷ, καὶ δι' αὐτοῦ τῷ Πατρί; Χρὴ δὲ καὶ εἰς τοὺς προφήτας καὶ ἀποστόλους καὶ μάρτυρας ἀφορῶντας, ἀνυμνεῖν αὐτῶν τὸν Θεὸν, τὸν τοιαύτην ἀνθρώποις ἀγαθῶν ἀνδρῶν φορὰν χαρισάμενον. Αἰνεῖτε αὐτὸν κατὰ τὸ πλῆθος τῆς μεγαλωσύνης αὐτοῦ. Ἕκαστον γὰρ αὐτοῦ δημιούργημα δεῖται πλείστης ὑμνολογίας· τῆς γὰρ μεγαλωσύνης αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἔστι πέρας· οὐ λέγει δὲ ἀντίῤῥοπον αὐτοῖς ἀποδοῦναι τὸν ὕμνον· ἀδύνατον γάρ· ἀλλὰ τὸ κατὰ δύναμιν ἀπαιτεῖ, ἐννοοῦντας τὸ πλῆθος τῆς μεγαλωσύνης αὐτοῦ.
