himself in what he approves. But he who doubts, if he eats, is condemned 31.781; because it is not from faith. For whatever is not from faith is sin. TO THE COLOSSIANS. If you died with Christ from the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit to regulations? Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch; which all perish with use, according to the commandments and teachings of men. That one ought not to judge concerning uncertain things. Chapter 3. TO THE CORINTHIANS 1. Therefore do not judge anything before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts; and then each one's praise will come from God. That one ought not to judge with partiality. Chapter 4. JOHN. If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me because I made a man's whole body well on the Sabbath? Do not judge by appearance, but judge with righteous judgment. That one ought not to condemn anyone, without first having accurately examined the things concerning him in his presence, even if there are many accusers. Chapter 5. JOHN, Nicodemus says, he who came to him by night, being one of them: Does our law judge a man, unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing? ACTS. But when they had spent many days there, Festus laid Paul's case before the king, saying: There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix, about whom, when I was in Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, asking for a sentence of condemnation against him; to whom I answered: It is not the custom of the Romans to give up any man, before the accused has the accusers face to face, and has an opportunity to make his defense concerning the charge.
RULE 55. That it is necessary to know and confess the grace of every good thing, and
that endurance in sufferings for Christ's sake comes from God. Chapter 1. JOHN. A man can receive nothing, unless it is
given to him from heaven. TO THE CORINTHIANS 1. What do you have that you did not receive? TO THE 31.784 EPHESIANS. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not from yourselves; it is the gift of God; not from works, so that no one may boast. TO THE PHILIPPIANS. And this is from God, that it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him, having the same conflict, and the rest. That one ought not to be silent about the good deeds of God, but to give thanks for them. Chapter 2. LUKE. And the man from whom the demons had departed begged him that he might be with him. But Jesus sent him away, saying: Return to your house, and tell what great things God has done for you. And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him. LUKE. And as he was entering a certain village, ten leprous men met him, who stood at a distance. And they lifted up their voices, saying: Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said to them: Go, show yourselves to the priests. And it happened that as they went, they were cleansed. But one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice. And he fell on his face at his feet, giving him thanks; and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said: Were not the ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner? And he said to him: Arise, go your way; your faith has made you well. TO THE CORINTHIANS 1. But by the grace of God I am what I am. TO TIMOTHY 1. Every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.
RULE 56. That one ought to persevere in prayers and in vigils.
