Chapter 1. MATTHEW. Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find;

knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; and the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks it will be opened, and what follows. LUKE. And he also told them a parable, to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart, saying; There was a judge in a certain city, and the rest. LUKE. But watch yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly. For like a trap 31.785 it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Be watchful, therefore, at all times praying that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man. TO THE COLOSSIANS. Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. 1 THESSALONIANS. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing. That one ought to give thanks to God first even for those things for the daily need of the body, and so to partake. Chapter 2. MATTHEW. And taking the five loaves and the two fish, giving thanks, he broke and gave them to his disciples; and the disciples to the crowd. ACTS. And when he had said these things, and taken bread, he gave thanks to God in the presence of all, and when he had broken it, he began to eat. 1 TIMOTHY. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving. That one ought not to babble when praying by asking for corruptible and unworthy things of the Lord. Chapter 3. MATTHEW. And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, therefore; for your heavenly Father knows what you need before you ask him. LUKE. And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink; and do not be of anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek. But your Father knows that you need these things. How one ought to pray, and in what state of soul. Chapter 4. MATTHEW. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, and what follows. MATTHEW. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. MARK. And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone. 1 TIMOTHY. I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger and quarreling. That we ought to pray for one another, and for those who preside over the word of truth. Chapter 5. LUKE. And the Lord said: Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. TO THE EPHESIANS. praying at all times in the Spirit, and to that end 31.788 keeping alert always with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that a word may not be given in the opening of my mouth with boldness, to make known the mystery of the Gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that in it I may speak boldly as I ought to speak. 2 THESSALONIANS. Finally, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored everywhere, just as also among you. That one ought also to pray for enemies. Chapter 6. MATTHEW. Pray for those who abuse you and persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. That a man ought not to pray or prophesy with his head covered, nor a woman with her head uncovered. Chapter 7. 1 CORINTHIANS. But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of a wife is her husband; and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, and what follows. DEFINITION 57. That one ought not to be arrogant about oneself in the
