a tongue, Photine; to her he entrusted Salaphtha, giving her the monastic habit, and committing them to God he sent them away in peace. And she undertook such a way of life as no other had at that time, fasting daily and after the fast partaking of a little bread with salt and soaked pulse or fine vegetables and only water; for she partook of no wine at all. But on feast days she partook of oil and ate olives, and she tasted nothing else that was prepared by fire; but during the forty days of the fasts she ate every two days soaked pulse or fine vegetables without bread; And she went through the entire holy week of Pascha, partaking of nothing, except on Holy Thursday, after holy communion, of warm water. And her body wasted away so much that those who saw her thought they were looking at a shadow. And she became an example to many others; for they emulated the life and conduct of the holy maiden Salaphtha, who even until now seems to live; for she is dead to the world, but lives for Christ and is with him forever; of whose holy prayers may we have a share. And let these things be said concerning the venerable maiden Salaphtha.
103 But the most blessed bishop Porphyry, having established both the ecclesiastical rule and the entire order of service, having lived a few more years after consecrating the great church, falling into an illness, drew up a pious will, leaving legacies to many; and entrusting all the Christ-loving people to God, fell asleep in peace with the saints, on the second of the month Dystrus, in the four hundred and eightieth year according to the Gazaeans, having been bishop for 24 years, 11 months, and 8 days, having completed the good fight against the idol-mad until the day of his falling asleep. And now he is in the paradise of delight, interceding with all the saints on our behalf, through whose prayers may the Father and God have mercy on us, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, to whom be the glory and the power unto the ages of ages. Amen.
