Alogoi. Contributors, who have not yet selected what is due from them. Allodapes. The stranger, from another land. Aloetos. The season of summer. Allothroous. Of other voices. Alloprosallos. Changeable, inconsistent. Allos. Instead of 'heteros'. -But to Zeus we will bring another. Allos. It is significant of a person, that is, of a hypostasis. For example, another and another, Paul. But 'allo' signifies a difference in nature. For example: a man is one thing and a horse is another thing. And 'alloion' is used for accidental differences; for it makes [something] different in quality. Allos allon. Instead of 'one another'. Allotrios. A stranger. 'allo-orios', and by syncopealpha.122 'allorios', *he who is of other boundaries. And by pleonasm of the ˉt, 'allotrios'.* Allos. From 'alalos' and by syncope 'allos'; for it is subversive of definite persons. For example: another, not I; another, not you. It must be known that 'allos' does not have a vocative, like 'alle', for the nature of the declension conflicts with the meaning of the word. For the vocative is for a person who is present and known; but 'allos' is unknown and absent. Similarly the vocatives of interrogatives, of 'poios'; 'tis'; 'posos'; are lacking, since interrogatives are about absent and unknown persons, but vocatives are declensions of present and known persons. Allos. It is a noun [or] a pronoun. *There are some arguments, not considering it to be a pronoun and not a noun.* Because in the way that 'ekeinos' and 'outos' form their neuters by dropping the ˉs, 'ekeino' and 'touto', in the same way 'allo' forms the neuter by dropping the ˉn, having noted 'allo' and 'touto', and the like. But another argument for it not being a pronoun, but a noun. For a pronoun is taken instead of a noun. But 'allos' is indefinite, because both 3rd and 2nd. 'ekeinos' and 'outos' and the rest signify either deixis or anaphora; but 'allos' signifies neither deixis nor anaphora, and is a noun. Halmyros. As from 'tolme' [comes] 'tolmeros', so also from 'alme' [comes] 'halmyros'. And as 'teros', 'tyros'. But the word is properly used of rivers flowing into the sea, that is, being poured out. Aloimos. The plastering applied over the burnishing of the chamber, being like a leaf-coating alpha.123 on it. Thus as from 'leipo' [comes] 'loimos', so from 'aleipho' [comes] 'aloimos'. Alpis. A great mountain of Europe, from which flows the Ister; and another more to the west, from which flows the Rhine river. And it is called Alpis from a certain Alpius, who was killed in those places; or from 'alton', which means 'the high'. Halas. The sea. From 'hales', that which is twisted together and gathered. Aliates. King of the Lydians, who was noble in matters of war. Some write 'Aliattes' with two ˉt's. The inhabitant 'Aliattenos'. And Aliata, a region of Bithynia, from Aliattus. Alydenos. The bad wind. Alydimos. The stay-at-home. Alpheios. A river of the Arcadian city, which is situated in the Peloponnese. Alphiteis. Those who make barley-groats. Thus Hyperides. Alphos. A certain condition, from changing the skin's color. Being a kind of 'allophos', that which makes the color appear different. Alopochrous. The grey-haired. Alobetoi. Uninsulted, unharmed, blameless. Alotos. Capturable. Alphos. A certain white-colored condition. Alitros. The sinner. Alpheios. The river in Elis. From curing cases of 'alphos'. Or from 'alphein', which is 'to benefit'; for its water is beneficial. The trisyllabic [names] alpha.124 of rivers ending in ˉoˉs, being oxytone, have a diphthong, for example: Peneios, Spercheios. The 'oxytone' is added because of 'Menios'. For it is written with an ˉi as trisyllabic because of 'Saggarios'. Alazonas. Those who boast about things they do not have, as if they have them. Thus Paul the Apostle. Allotrioepiskopos. He who, having forsaken his own sins, meddles in those of others. (Feminine.) Alabastrotheke. A perfume-box. Alabantha. A city of Caria. Albania. A country. Alakatos and elakatos and elakate. From 'azo', 'axo', comes the verbal noun 'aktos', the feminine 'akte', and with the pleonasm of the ˉaˉl syllable, as is customary, it becomes 'alakate', that which draws the wool or linen. Alazoneia. A disposition of pretending to things that are not one's own. Algeine. The grievous. Alaoskopie. The blindness.
