had become, having passed over into incorruptibility. 412 Jo , Having shown his body and supplied them with peace, he filled them with great, divine joy. 413 Jo , 22 And he calls the spiritual grace of the apostles “spirit,” saying, “Receive the Holy Spirit,” because it makes those who hear spiritual, as he himself had said before: "The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life." if, therefore, he calls the words that he himself spoke “spirit,” that is, spiritual, how would he not much more have called so great a gift “spirit” by the same name? 414 Jo , 22-23 As teachers of the inhabited world they receive this great provision of his divine authority: the ability to forgive sins and to condemn certain people, like Sapphira and Ananias, which authority he calls Holy Spirit, the spiritual gift; for he promised not to give the Spirit, but to send it. 415 Jo , 24-25 Because of the extraordinary nature of the matter, Thomas disbelieves and says these things. 421 Jo 21, 6-14 For this miraculous catch of fish, having astonished them
signified the appearance of the Lord. But Peter, out of reverence, got dressed, and out of ardor, having swum, he alone came to the land; for the others in the boat were hauling in the net. Christ made this a symbol of the future catch of men, that it would happen through his invisible power through those to whom he said, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." Then they find a fish on the charcoal fire, through which his ineffable power was again shown, whether he took a fish from the sea without a hook, or made it out of things that were not; and he commands that some of the caught fish also be cooked and that they eat, so that from the similarity of both they might know that he himself was the creator of both. And when the Lord said, "Come and have breakfast," no one dared to say anything to him; for they knew that it was he, even if they did not yet see him clearly, either because it was still dark, or because he himself made himself unknown to them. But having shared with them the bread and the fish, he immediately made himself known. The evangelist calls this the third appearance of Christ. 422 Jo 21, 7-8 This is also a mark of the exceeding reverence of the blessed Peter, because when the Lord appeared suddenly, he quickly put on his outer garment because of his nakedness, and letting himself down into the sea, he hastens to come more quickly to him standing on the shore. And the Savior did this not to provide the disciples with a living from fishing—for he wants them to be without possessions and poor—but he was providing them with a symbol of the future catch of men; for having said at the beginning of the gospel, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men," through the present
