He was not heard by God regarding crossing the Jordan and seeing the land of promise, but God said to him, 'Let it be sufficient for you; go up to the top of the mountain, and see with your eyes, for you shall not cross this Jordan.' And Moses died on that mountain, one hundred and ten years old. And Joshua led the people for 27 years, having lived a total of one hundred and ten years. But I thought it necessary to go through the things concerning the blessed Moses more clearly. For when this divine man was about to receive the second law, he went up to the mountain, and the Lord came down in a cloud, and he stood with him there for forty days and forty nights; he ate no bread and drank no water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments. And taking the tablets and coming down from the mountain glorified, Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw the face of Moses, and it was glorified, and they were afraid to approach him; and for this reason he put on a veil when he spoke to them. For after forty days, having come down, and being angered by the making of the calf, he immediately shattered the tablets and at once ordered all who were present to be killed. And after destroying the calf, and exterminating three thousand of the most shameful men in one day, on the following day he quickly went up the mountain to the Lord, to beseech him. And hear what the scripture says. And it came to pass on the next day, Moses said to the people, 'You have sinned a great sin; and now I will go up to God, that I may make atonement for your sin.' And Moses returned to the Lord, and said, 'I pray, this people has sinned a great sin and they have made for themselves gods. And now, if you will forgive their sin, forgive it; but if not, blot me out of the book which you have written.' And the Lord said to Moses, 'Whoever has sinned before me, I will blot him out of my book. But now go, and lead this people to the place of which I have told you, and behold, my angel will go before you; but on whatever day I visit, I will bring their sin upon them.' So then it is undisputed that for eighty days in a row the divine Moses, borne by God, went without food, being nourished by the divine word according to the voice of the Lord. And whenever Moses went into the tent of testimony, all the people would stand watching. And when Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud and God came down upon the tent. And the people saw the pillar of cloud, and each would worship from his tent. And thus the Lord spoke with Moses in the sight of the people. And striving in various ways to rescue the people from the wrath of the Lord, he so little regarded his own salvation that he even stood in the breach of God, according to David. But they, being ungrateful, rose up all the more against the prophet. And as for those who rose up against him, some were swallowed down into the earth alive, while others became the consumption of divine fire. For it says, 'And those who died in the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those who died on account of Korah.' And after these things there was no water for the congregation, and the people reviled Moses and Aaron. And when they cried out, the Lord said to Moses, 'Take this staff, and you and Aaron your brother gather the congregation, and speak to the rock before them, and it will give its waters.' And Moses took the staff from before the Lord, and gathered the congregation before the rock. And the Lord said to them, 'Hear me, you rebels. Shall I bring forth water for you from this rock?' And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with the staff, and much water came out, and the congregation and their cattle drank. And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 'Because you did not believe to sanctify me before the people, for this reason you shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them. Therefore let Aaron be gathered to the
