they ceased teaching and proclaiming the good news of Christ Jesus. TO THE COLOSSIANS. Of which I, Paul, became a minister. Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the Church.
RULE 65. That it is necessary even at the departure itself to pray what is fitting.
Chap. 1. MATTHEW. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a voice
loud, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ that is, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.’ And having said this, he breathed his last. ACTS. And they were stoning Stephen as he called upon, and said, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’ And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
RULE 60. That one must not abandon those who are struggling for the sake of piety.
Chap. 1. JOHN. Jesus answered them, 'Do you now believe? Behold, the hour is coming
and has now come, that you may be scattered, each to his own, and leave me alone. TO TIMOTHY 2. You are aware of this, that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains; but when he arrived in Rome, he searched for me earnestly and found me. may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that day. And you know very well how many ways he ministered at 31.805 Ephesus. TO TIMOTHY 2. At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! That one must pray for those being tested in trials. Chap. 2. LUKE. Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. ACTS. So Peter was kept in prison, but earnest prayer was made to God for him by the church.
RULE 67. That for those who have full assurance of the resurrection from the dead,
it is foreign to grieve for those who have fallen asleep. Chap. 1. LUKE. And a great multitude of the people followed him, and
of women, who were mourning and lamenting him. But turning he said to them, 'Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me.' TO THE THESSALONIANS 1. But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
RULE 68. That one must not the properties of this age even after the resurrection
expect, but know an angelic and want-free life in the age to come. Chap. 1. LUKE. Jesus answered and said to them, 'The sons of this age
marry and are given in marriage; but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. For they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. TO THE CORINTHIANS 1. But someone will ask, ‘How are the dead raised? With what kind of body
