do they come? Fool, what you sow is not made alive unless it first dies. And what you sow, you do not sow the body that will be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some of the others. But God gives it a body as He willed. And a little after: So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. 31.808 That one must not expect the coming of the Lord to be local or carnal, but to await it suddenly in the glory of the Father over all the inhabited world. Chap. 2. MATTHEW. Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘here,’ do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will arise, and they will give great signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect. MARK. But you, take heed; behold, I have foretold all things to you. But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars of heaven will be falling, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 1 THESSALONIANS. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who remain until the coming of the Lord, will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep; for the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. RULE 69. Things which are forbidden in context, and receive a sentence of threat. Chap. 1. MATTHEW. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man ... Depart from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry, and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger, and you did not take Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me. LUKE. Woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation; woe to you who are full, for you shall hunger; woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep; woe, when all men speak well of you. But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. TO THE ROMANS. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased 31.809 mind, to do those things which are not fitting, being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, covetousness, malice, and so on. For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet, and if there is any other commandment, and so on. 1 CORINTHIANS. Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 2 CORINTHIANS. Lest there be contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, backbitings, whisperings, conceits, tumults. TO THE GALATIANS. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. TO THE GALATIANS. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. TO THE EPHESIANS. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; and filthiness, or foolish talking, coarse jesting, which are not fitting. TO THE COLOSSIANS. Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness,
