33.ν A recapitulation concerning worship. 33.1 We have seen him, then, being glorified; we have seen him also being worshipped.
33.2 But both are fitting and due to God, and not to a creature, as the saints below write; 33.3 David in the 94th Psalm: "Come, let us worship and fall down before him and weep before the Lord who made us, because he is our God and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand" 33.4 and in the 21st: "All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will worship before him, because the kingdom is the Lord's and he rules over the nations." 33.5 What then will they say who assign the name "God" separately to the Father and "Lord" to the Son, when they hear here that the Lord is worshipped and rules and that the kingdom is his? 33.6 And again in the 9th Psalm: "and I will worship you, O Lord, my strength"; 33.7 and in the 131st: "Let us worship at the place where his feet have stood"; 33.8 Paul writing from the song of Deuteronomy: "But when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says: And let all the angels of God worship him"; 33.9 and the evangelist, he says, "the magi said: We have seen his star in the east and have come to worship him"; 33.10 and again "behold," he says, "a leper came and worshipped him"; 33.11 and again in Matthew, he says: "The wind ceased. And those in the boat worshipped him, saying: Truly you are the Son of God," and not as we, he says, who are called sons by abundant gift. 33.12 And: "a certain ruler worshipped him." 33.13 and after his resurrection on the mountain, he says: "The apostles, seeing him, worshipped him."
34.ν Concerning faith in God the Father.
34.1 Just as, then, Scripture apparently greater things than concerning the Father
saying many things about the Son and revealing him to be Almighty, and maker of the ages, and creator of all things, and true God, and having no god before him, and above all, and great and God over all, with whom no other will be reckoned, and sitting together at the right hand of the Father, and being in his bosom, and being himself eternal life, and the true light, and Lord of all, and only Master, and Ruler, whose peace has no limit but also surpasses all understanding, whose kingdom is endless, and in no one else is salvation, and that the Father draws the worthy to the Son; in no way is the Father—may it not be—considered inferior, or his Spirit. 34.2 In the same way, while it speaks loftily about the Father, the Only-Begotten or the Holy Spirit ought not to be reckoned as lesser or unlike. 34.3 For it is not of any created power, but only of the uncreated, both the things mentioned and to create substance from non-existent things, both irrational and rational, 34.4 and to make alive, and to forgive sins, and to call creation his own, and to know the Father on equal terms, as he is known by him, and to work equally with the Father, and to be in the Father and the Father in him on equal terms, and to be served by angels, and what is still superior to these things: to be testified to as the only-begotten Son and God and Light from Light and eternal Life and Truth and Savior and to be present everywhere and that all things are established in him, and to bestow on all without envy the kingdom of heaven and the divine peace as being his own and to provide security for everlasting salvation to those who believe and call upon him. 34.5 For those who call the true Son of God and the holy and life-giving Spirit a creature and not without beginning, not
