And the king of the Assyrians sent the Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem to king Hezekiah with a great force. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway of the fuller's field. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt, and all who trust in him. But if you say, We trust in the Lord our God, now make a bargain with my lord, the king of the Assyrians; and he will give you two thousand horses, if you are able to set riders upon them. And how will you be able to look upon the face of one governor? They are servants who trust in Egypt for horse and rider. And now have we come up without your 145 Lord against this land to make war on it? And Eliakim the son of Hilkiah and Shebna the scribe and Joah said to him, Speak to your servants in Aramaic; and why do you speak in the ears of the people who are on the wall? And the Rabshakeh said to them, Has my lord sent me to your lord or to you to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, that they may not eat dung and drink urine together with you? And the Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jewish language and said, Hear the words of the great king of the Assyrians. Thus says the king. Let not Hezekiah deceive you with words; he is not able to deliver you. And let not Hezekiah tell you that God will deliver you, and this city will not be delivered into the hands of the king of the Assyrians. Do not listen to Hezekiah. Thus says the king of the Assyrians. Decide to be blessed; come out to me, and each one will eat of his vine and his figs, and you will drink water from your own cistern, until I come and take you to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine and bread and vineyards. Τίνι πεποιθὼς εἶ; μὴ ἐν βουλῇ ἢ ἐν λόγοις χειλέων παράταξις γίνεται; καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν ῥάβδον τὴν καλαμίνην τὴν τεθλασμένην ταύτην ἐπ' Αἴγυπτον; ὃς ἐὰν ἐπ' αὐτὴν ἐπιστηριχθῇ, εἰσελεύσεται εἰς τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ. οὕτως ἐστὶ Φαραὼ βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου καὶ πάντες οἱ πεποιθότες ἐπ' αὐτῷ. εἰ δὲ λέγετε, Ἐπὶ κύριον τὸν θεὸν ἡμῶν πεποίθαμεν, νυνὶ μίχθητε τῷ κυρίῳ μου, τῷ βασιλεῖ Ἀσσυρίων· καὶ δώσει ὑμῖν δισχιλίους ἵππους, εἰ δυνήσεσθε ἀναβάτας ἐπ' αὐτοὺς δοῦναι. καὶ πῶς δυνήσεσθε ἀποβλέψαι εἰς πρόσωπον τοπάρχου ἑνός; οἰκέται εἰσὶν οἱ πεποιθότες ἐπ' Αἴγυπτον εἰς ἵππον καὶ ἀναβάτην. καὶ νῦν μὴ ἄνευ κυρίου 145 ὑμῶν ἀνέβημεν ἐπὶ τὴν χώραν ταύτην πολεμῆσαι αὐτήν; καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Ἐλιακεὶμ ὁ τοῦ Χελκίου καὶ Σομνᾶς ὁ γραμματεὺς καὶ Ἰωάς, Λάλησον πρὸς τοὺς παῖδάς σου συριστί· καὶ ἵνα τί λαλεῖτε εἰς τὰ ὦτα τῶν ἀνθρώπων τῶν ἐπὶ τῷ τείχει; καὶ εἶπε Ῥαψάκης πρὸς αὐτούς, Μὴ πρὸς κύριον ὑμῶν ἢ πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἀπέσταλκέ με ὁ κύριός μου λαλῆσαι τοὺς λόγους τούτους, οὐχὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἀνθρώπους τοὺς καθημένους ἐπὶ τῷ τείχει, ἵνα μὴ φάγωσι κόπρον καὶ πίωσιν οὖρον μεθ' ὑμῶν ἅμα; καὶ ἔστη Ῥαψάκης καὶ ἐβόησε φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ἰουδαϊστὶ καὶ εἶπεν, Ἀκούσατε τοὺς λόγους τοῦ μεγάλου βασιλέως Ἀσσυρίων. τάδε λέγει ὁ βασιλεύς. Μὴ ἀπατάτω ὑμᾶς Ἐζεκίας λόγοις· οὐ δύνηται ῥύσασθαι ὑμᾶς. καὶ μὴ λεγέτω ὑμῖν Ἐζεκίας ὅτι ῥύσεται ὑμᾶς θεός, καὶ οὐ μὴ παραδοθῇ ἡ πόλις αὕτη εἰς χεῖρας βασιλέως Ἀσσυρίων. μὴ ἀκούετε Ἐζεκίου. τάδε λέγει ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἀσσυρίων. Βουλεύσασθε εὐλογηθῆναι· ἐκπορεύεσθε πρός με, καὶ φάγεται ἕκαστος τὴν ἄμπελον αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ σῦκα αὐτοῦ, καὶ πίεσθε ὕδωρ ἐκ τοῦ λάκκου ὑμῶν, ἕως ἂν ἔλθω καὶ λάβω ὑμᾶς εἰς γῆν, ὡς ἡ γῆ ὑμῶν, γῆ σίτου καὶ οἴνου καὶ ἄρτου καὶ ἀμπέλων. μὴ οὖν ὑμᾶς
