with proclamations, and the armies of the spirits above attend to the son as master and lord of all, and when he became flesh, that is, man. 318 Mt 28, 9-10 The female sex has gained both a release from reproach and an overturning of the curse; for he who long ago said to them, "in sorrow you shall bring forth children," has given them a pause, having met them in the garden and said, rejoice. with surpassing joy the women to him—and into good hopes and healing that which had suffered. 319 Mt 28, 16-17 But do you see how some of the evangelists pass over some things; for "they doubted" is clearly explained by John, showing the one who doubted, who was Thomas; so as also to mention the appearance in Judea that happened a second time, how the matter stood. But he said, that he appeared to them in Galilee, which alone it seems to me John omitted, as it was his purpose to say the remaining things, both how many times he appeared and where, and also indeed clearly explaining how. 320 Mt 28, 17 John speaks of other visions, but the one which Matthew speaks of here not only the eleven saw, but also the many, as is likely. 321 Mt 28, 18 Still in the manner of the economy and more humanly he said, "was given to me"; however, he wishes it to be understood, that he has authority over all things as God, and having left behind the measure of his emptying, he has returned to the glory that is innate and always belongs to him, and is confessed with the flesh as God and Lord of all. Therefore, he then says "was given to me" not as receiving it for the first time, when he became man, but that which he always had because he exists from the Father and is God by nature, receiving it as in the order of a man.
