Therefore, he was appropriately called Superbus in the Roman tongue; which is translated as arrogant. For he was the first to decree that those who greeted him should be greeted in return by another. He reigned for 25 years. After him, annual consuls, chiliarchs, or agoranomoi ruled for 463 years, whose names we consider it long and superfluous to list. For if anyone wishes to learn them, he will find them from the records which Chryseros the nomenclator wrote, who was a freedman of M. Aurelius Verus, who clearly recorded everything from the founding of Rome until the death of his own patron, the emperor Verus, both the names and the times. So, the annual magistrates ruled the Romans, as we say, for 463 years. Then the so-called emperors ruled as follows: first, Gaius Julius, who reigned 3 years, 7 months, and 6 days. Then Augustus, 56 years, 4 months, and 1 day. Tiberius, 22 years, months Ϛ days κϚ. Then another Gaius, 3 years, 10 months, and 7 days. Claudius, 13 years, 8 months, and 20 days. Nero, 13 years, 7 months, and 27 days. Galba, 7 months and 6 days. Otho, 3 months and 5 days. Vitellius, 8 months and 2 days. Vespasian, 9 years, 11 months, and 22 days. Titus, 2 years, 2 months, and 20 days. Domitian, 15 years and 5 days. Nerva, 1 year, 4 months, and 10 days. Trajan, 19 years, 6 months, and 14 days. Hadrian, 20 years, 10 months, and 28 days. Antoninus, 22 years, 7 months, and 26 days. Verus, 19 years and 10 days. Therefore, the time of the Caesars until the death of the emperor Verus is 225 years. So from the beginning of the reign of Cyrus until the death of the emperor Verus, whom we have mentioned before, the entire time amounts to 741 years. And from the foundation of the world, the entire time is summed up as follows. From the creation of the world until the flood there were 2242 years. And from the flood until the childbearing of Abraham our forefather, 1036 years. And from Isaac the son of Abraham until the people with Moses sojourned in the wilderness, 660 years. And from the death of Moses, the rule of Joshua son of Nun, until the death of David the patriarch, 498 years. And from the death of David, and the reign of Solomon, until the sojourning of the people in the land of Babylon, 518 years, 6 months, and 10 days. And from the beginning of the reign of Cyrus until the death of the emperor Aurelius Verus, 741 years. In total, from the creation of the world, all the years add up to 5695, and the additional months and days. Therefore, with all the times and the things that have been said collected, it is possible to see the antiquity of the prophetic writings and the divinity of the Word among us, that the Word is not recent, nor are our beliefs, as some suppose, mythical and false, but rather
