To transgress dishonors God; he who is contained by the divine law brings honor to him. Bring to the Lord the glory of his name; similarly to what came before. Worship the Lord in his holy court. He who serves God according to the ecclesiastical dogmas and her blameless canons worships the Lord in his holy court. 255 Ps 28,3a One applying this more readily will say that John baptizing in the Jordan river is the voice of the Lord upon the waters. 256 Ps 28,7 Moreover, John, having undertaken a vigorous and austere life, having made passable the flame of the pleasures of life, is the Voice of the Lord dividing the flame of fire. 257 Ps 28,8b.9a The inhabited world has therefore come from the desert. The aforementioned voice of the Lord prepares the hinds, so called allegorically. And these are souls, by the spirit putting to death the deeds of the body and by the spirit through their lips, in imitation of God, destroying the impious serpent. 258 Ps 28,9b And this voice of the Lord will also work the uncovering of the thickets, so that the beasts lurking in them, which the hinds slay, may be made manifest. A thicket is a place overgrown with fruitless trees; and a thicket is uncovered when the fruitless trees in it are cut down by the axe of the word and cast into the fire. 259 Ps 28,9c When the things that overshadow the progress of men are taken away, then everyone, having abandoned the polytheistic error, will speak of glory in the temple of God. 260 Ps 28,10b That God sits signifies that his foundation remains forever unchangeable and unalterable. Indeed, he distinguishes it from those who perish through change, saying: You sit for ever, and we perish for ever. and here, therefore, the permanence of his kingdom is presented. For this reason, And the Lord will sit as king forever, his kingdom having no end.

261 Ps 29,1 However, one who agrees with the history will say that David the king, desiring to build a physical house for the Lord, was prevented by God, who said to him: You shall not build a house for me because you have been a man of war from your youth, but he who comes forth from your loins, he shall build a house for me. David, persuaded by the oracle, ceased from building, but he did provide the materials for the building. Just as, he says, he prepared the materials, so too he composed the psalm and left it as one of the necessary things, so that when the house was built and dedicated by those appointed for this, it might be played with those psalming and singing in thanksgiving. 262 Ps 29,4 And he says he was saved, either because God did not allow him to descend into it, or because he brought him up after he had descended. And these things might be said economically and as from the person of Christ, who came to lay down his life for us and indeed gave it and rose from the dead by the good pleasure of God the Father, to whom he also says in a human way: since You did not abandon my soul to hades, called the pit, I say with confidence: You saved me from those who go down into the pit. 263 Ps 29,6cδ Those for whom the day which the true light establishes has ended, weep in the evening, that is, having come to be at the beginning of the night, while those rejoice for whom the beginning of the day came when the sun of righteousness rose for them. This will fit both accounts: that of the one from the circumcision weeping when the sun of righteousness set for them, and that of the gentiles rejoicing in the morning when the word of salvation dawned upon them. 264 Ps 29,7 One must understand prosperity with regard to spiritual fruitfulness, when the seed of Jesus becomes a hundredfold and the other fruits of virtue are multiplied. Therefore, being in this prosperity, I will say through the very facts, remaining firm and unmoved, the words I shall never be moved. And it should be punctuated thus: I said in my prosperity
