You, imitating Moses, O God-minded one, received spiritual tablets of the dogmas. For
in the darkness you entered (having entered ) into the thoughts, you were enriched with the light of knowledge.
You, emulating Abraham, O God-bearer, offered another Isaac to the Lord, sacrificing your own, Father, heart, in the fire of conscience.
These the Trinity worthily glorified; these God joined together in faith, confessing to one another in the piety of our unerring confession.
Theotokion. You bore the timeless Son in time; incorrupt, pure, you remained after giving birth to the one for
us incarnate in your womb, O God-bearer, ever-virgin. Ode 5 . Rising early we cry out. The sword, O Father, did not cut off your boldness; exile, O holy one, did not extinguish
your faith. Rome indeed proclaims your zeal, O God-bearer; and the Church, O holy one, trumpets
your words. You kept your faith unshaken in your heart, and you raised your mind up to
heaven, O great-named one. Theotokion. We praise you as the fount of immortality, O Theotokos; for you gushed forth ever-flowing life to the world.
Ode 6 . From the belly of Hades you heard the voice of my cry, and you delivered from
corruption my life, as the lover of mankind. Thrice-blessed one, he who spoke in you, Jesus, marveled at your confession, he who
contended with you. You were not terrified, O holy one, by the arrogance of rulers, nor by the sword, nor by the fire threatening you; for
you were firm in faith. After the end of your life, O Fathers, you perform miracles, providing effective proofs
of your wonders. Theotokion. Beyond mind and reason, O Virgin, nursing the nurturer (209) of all from your breasts,
you do not undergo the things of mothers. Kathisma. Tone 3. Plagal. Of divine faith. Strengthening the inspired dogma, you became a pillar of orthodoxy, and a bulwark,
O God-minded one, of the faith, proclaiming Christ our God in two natures and two wills, O Father Maximus, whom now earnestly entreat to grant us great mercy.
Synaxarion. The contest of our Father among the saints, Maximus the Confessor, who during the
reign of Constantine, called Pogonatus, grandson of Heraclius, having been received with the greatest honors by the former emperors, and being capable in political administrations to direct practical matters, on account of his speech and manner and his long-standing wisdom, was promoted to the rank of protoasecretis, and became a sharer of counsel with the emperors. But since the wicked and degenerate opinion, of the one
