he fed with bread and water, until the famine was ended. Then Elijah also, by the word of the Lord, anoints Elisha as a prophet; for he finds him plowing with twelve yoke of oxen. And immediately he sacrifices the oxen, and with the implements he kindles a fire, and having boiled them, gives them to the people to eat. And he himself went after Elijah, and ministered to him. Ahab, having captured the son of Hadad of Syria, released him with gifts. And a certain man from the sons of the prophets, named Micaiah, said to his neighbor in the word of the Lord, "Strike me." And he was not willing. And he said to him, "Because you did not listen to the voice of the Lord, behold, you are going away, and a lion will strike you;" which also happened. And he spoke to another, and he struck him, and he was wounded. And the prophet, having bound 1.178 his eyes with a bandage, as the king of Israel was passing by, he himself cried out, "Your servant went out to the army of the war, and a man brought a man to me, saying, 'Guard this man for me. If he escapes, your life will be for his life, or you will pay a talent of silver.' And it happened, as your servant was looking here and there, he was not there." And Ahab said, "Behold, you are a judge, and the snares are with me. You have murdered." And the prophet, hastening, took the bandage from his eyes, and it was known that he was one of the prophets, and he said, "Thus says the Lord: Because you have let go a man of destruction from my hand, behold, your life shall be for his life, and your people for his people." And Ahab went away sullen and weeping. There was a vineyard belonging to Naboth the Jezreelite beside the threshing floor of Ahab, which Ahab sought to take and give either another vineyard or its price. But he said, "Far be it from me to give to anyone my inheritance." But when Ahab was grieved, as Jezebel heard, she writes to the elders who were in the city to kill him under a pretext. And they falsely accuse him of having cursed the king, and they kill him, and Ahab inherits the vineyard. And Elijah comes to him, and says to him, 1.179 "Thus says the Lord: As you have murdered and have inherited, for this reason in the place where the swine and the dogs licked the blood of Naboth, there the dogs will lick your blood, and the prostitutes will wash in your blood; and the dogs will devour Jezebel in the rampart of Jezreel." which also happened. For having gone out with Jehoshaphat king of Judah to fight the king of Syria, he is shot in the liver, and returns to Samaria, and he dies; and they wash off his blood at the pool of Samaria, and the swine and the dogs licked up his blood. And a little below, the prostitutes washed in his blood. And Jezebel, having fallen from the wall, became food for the dogs, according to the word of the Lord.
Ahaziah son of Ahab rules Israel for two years. This one fell ill, and sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, if he would live from his illness. And behold, Elijah met them. And having turned back, they said to Ahaziah, "A hairy man met us, with a leather belt on his loins, and he said to us, 'Turn back to the one who sent you, and say to him: Thus says the Lord: Because there is no god in Israel, you are going to inquire of Baal. Not so. The bed on which you have gone up, you will not come down from it.'" And he said, "It is Elijah the Tishbite." And he sent a captain of fifty and his fifty men. And Elijah was on the top of the mountain. And the captain of fifty said to him, "Man 1.180 of God, the king calls you; come down." To whom Elijah said, "If I am a man of God, fire will come down from heaven, and will consume you and your fifty." And fire came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. So it happened also to the second group. But the third captain of fifty, having come, falling upon the ground, prayed and said, "Man of God, let my life now be precious
