Esau, and that he should take a wife from there. So Jacob set out for Haran of Mesopotamia, leaving his father Isaac 9.21.3 one hundred and thirty-seven years old, while he himself was seventy-seven years old. Having stayed there for seven years, he married the two daughters of Laban his maternal uncle, Leah and Rachel, being eighty-four years old; and in another seven years twelve children were born to him; in the eighth year in the tenth month, Reuben; and in the ninth year in the eighth month, Simeon; and in the tenth year in the sixth month, Levi; and in the eleventh year in the fourth month, Judah. Rachel, not bearing children, was jealous of her sister and had her own handmaid Zilpah sleep with Jacob, at the same time that Bilhah also conceived Naphtali, in the eleventh year in the fifth month, and she bore a son in the twelfth year in the second month, who was named Gad by Leah; and from the same woman in the same year and the twelfth month 9.21.4 she bore another, who was also named Asher by Leah. And Leah again, in exchange for the mandrake apples which Reuben brought from Rachel, conceived and her handmaid Zilpah at the same time, in the twelfth year in the third month, and in the twelfth month of the same year bore a son and gave him the name 9.21.5 Issachar. And again Leah in the thirteenth year in the tenth month bore another son, whose name was Zebulun, and the same woman in the fourteenth year in the eighth month bore a son named Dan. At which time Rachel also conceived, at the same time that Leah also bore a daughter, Dinah, and in the fourteenth year in the eighth month she bore a son who was named Joseph, so that in the seven years 9.21.6 with Laban twelve children had been born. And when Jacob wanted to go away to his father in Canaan, he was asked by Laban to remain another six years, so that in all 9.21.7 he remained in Haran with Laban for twenty years. And as he was journeying to Canaan, an angel of God wrestled with him and touched the broad part of Jacob's thigh, and having grown numb, he limped; whence the sinew which is in the thighs of cattle is not eaten. And the angel said to him that from now on he would be called not Jacob, 9.21.8 but Israel. And he came to another city of the land of Canaan, Shechem, having children: Reuben, twelve years and two months old; Simeon, eleven years and four months; Levi, ten years and six months; Judah, nine years and eight months; Naphtali, eight years and ten months; Gad, eight years and ten months; Asher, eight years; Issachar, eight years; Zebulun, seven years and two months; 9.21.9 Dinah, six years and four months; Joseph, six years and four months. And Israel sojourned with Hamor for ten years, and Israel's daughter Dinah was defiled by Shechem the son of Hamor, being sixteen years and four months old. And the sons of Israel, being enraged, Simeon being twenty-one years and four months old, and Levi twenty years and six months, killed both Hamor and Shechem his son and all the males because of the defilement of Dinah; 9.21.10 and Jacob at that time was one hundred and seven years old. And so when he came to Luz of Bethel, God said that he should no longer be called Jacob, but Israel. And from there he came to Chaphratha, from where he arrived at Ephrath, which is Bethlehem, and there he begot Benjamin, and Rachel died, having given birth to Benja9.21.11 min, and Jacob had lived with her for twenty-three years. And from there Jacob came to Mamre of Hebron to Isaac his father. And at that time Joseph was seventeen years old, and he was sold into Egypt and remained in prison for thirteen years, so that he was thirty years old, and Jacob one hundred and twenty, at which time Isaac had also died one year before, being one hundred and 9.21.12 eighty years old. And Joseph, having interpreted the dreams for the king, ruled Egypt for seven years, during which he also married Asenath, the daughter of Pentephres the priest of Heliopolis, and begot Manasseh and Ephraim; and the famine occurred for years 9.21.13
