of the prophecy that says, and the handmade things of Egypt will be shaken. But these things will also be fulfilled during his second and glorious kingdom from the heavens, during which it would also likely be shaken; and then the aforementioned handmade things of Egypt will be more violently shaken, whose heart they also say will be defeated, as the divine Word subjects them to himself and will then humble every high thing that is now exalted against the knowledge of God; But all that follows in the prophecy will be rendered through allegory alone. Ps. 11. In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the land of the Egyptians, and a pillar at its border to the Lord; and it will be for a sign forever, the Lord in the land 190 of Egypt; for they will cry to the Lord because of those who afflict them, and he will send them a man who will save them, judging he will save them; and the Lord will be known to the Egyptians; and the Egyptians will know the Lord in that day; and they will make sacrifices and a gift; and they will make vows to God. And who else could be the man sent by the Lord, who saved the Egyptians by judging, than the Christ of God, he who took the form of a servant and was found in appearance as a man. And if Egypt is understood tropologically as the life of men, the superstitious and those who have suffered from material things would be the Egyptians, whom the God of all pitied as they were afflicted by the demons that tyrannized them, having sent the aforementioned man, who saved with a salvation befitting God, so that those who were formerly excluded from the assembly of the Lord according to the law might, through the epiphany that came to them, know the Lord, the Lord himself making himself known to them; and it is clear how in the declared land of the Egyptians an altar was established for the Lord from the gatherings held in every place for prayers and the worship of God. But someone might say, proceeding from the phrase, and there will be an altar to the Lord in the land of the Egyptians, that if indeed the altar is a certain place of sacrifices, where irrational animals are slaughtered for the Word of God, most justly a greater and truer altar for God has come to be through Christ in the whole terrestrial place, which is tropologically called Egypt, because of the martyrs everywhere being sacrifices and, as it were, 191 victims offered up to God on behalf of the human race, and in the physical land of the Egyptians itself, where so many and such great martyrs glorified God with their own blood; but if those of the circumcision are unconvinced by what has been rendered, let them say themselves when and where and by whom an altar was established for the Lord in Egypt, and who is the man who saved the Egyptians, and in what way and when did the Lord become known to the Egyptians, so that they, having departed from their former error, received the knowledge of him; for such is what it is to know the Lord. And all the rest of the prophecy depends on a deeper meaning, which this is not the time to unfold. Ps. 12. O Lord, in affliction I remembered you; in a little affliction is your instruction to us; and as a woman in travail draws near to giving birth, and in her pangs she cried out, so have we become for your beloved. A certain inscription in the Psalms is titled "for the beloved"; and again it is said, "the king of powers of the beloved"; but it is shown in those places that the one called the beloved of God is none other than Christ. For this reason we have also noted the "beloved" at hand; considering him to be that one, whom also a voice from heaven clearly proclaimed, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." 192 Ps. 13. Hear the words of the Lord, you afflicted men, and rulers of this people who are in Jerusalem; Because you said, "We have made a covenant with Hades, and agreements with death; if a rushing tempest should pass by, it will not come upon us; we have made falsehood our hope, and by falsehood we will be sheltered;" therefore thus says the Lord, the Lord: "Behold, I am laying in the foundations of Zion a precious stone,
