now I wander in a foreign land.” 9.28.4 Then concerning the daughters of Raguel he adds thus: “I see these seven certain maidens.” And when he asked them who the maidens were, Zipporah says: “This whole land is called Libya, stranger, and tribes of all kinds of races inhabit it, Ethiopian men, who are black; and there is one ruler of the land, both sovereign and sole general. And a priest rules this city and judges mortals, who is my father and the father of these.” Then, after discussing the watering of the flocks, he adds concerning the marriage of Zipporah, introducing both Chum and Zipporah speaking in dialogue: C. ““Nevertheless, you must declare these things, Zipporah. Z. My father gave me to this stranger as a wife.”“

9.29.1 29. OF DEMETRIUS CONCERNING THE SAME, SIMILARLY “Demetrius related the story concerning the slaying of the Egyptian and the dispute with the one who reported the death similarly to the one who wrote the sacred book; that Moses, however, fled to Midian and there married Zipporah, the daughter of Jethro, who was, as one may conjecture from the names, of the family of Abraham, from those born of Keturah, from Jokshan who was born to Abraham from Keturah; and from Jokshan was born Dedan, and from Dedan Raguel, and from Raguel Jethro and Hobab, and from Jethro Zipporah, whom 9.29.2 Moses married. And the generations also agree; for Moses was the seventh from Abraham, and Zipporah the sixth. For while Isaac, from whom Moses came, was already married, Abraham, being 140 years old, married Keturah and begat Jokshan from her as a second son; and Isaac, being one hundred years old, begat children. So that Jokshan, from whom Zipporah's genealogy is traced, was born 42 years later. 9.29.3 Therefore nothing contradicts Moses and Zipporah having lived at the same time. And they lived in the city of Midian, which was named after one of Abraham's sons. For he says that Abraham sent his sons to the east to settle; and because of this Aaron and Miriam said at Hazeroth that Moses had married an Ethiopian woman.”

9.29.4 30. OF EZEKIEL CONCERNING THE SAME, SIMILARLY “And Ezekiel also speaks concerning these things in the *Exagoge*, having also included the dream seen by Moses, but interpreted by his father-in-law. And Moses himself speaks in dialogue with his father-in-law somewhat thus: 9.29.5 “I dreamt that on the peaks of Mount Sinai there was a great throne reaching to the folds of heaven, on which sat a noble man, having a diadem and a great scepter especially in his left hand. And with his right hand he beckoned to me, and I stood before the throne. And he handed me the scepter and told me to sit on the great throne; and he gave me the royal diadem, and he himself departed from the throne. And I beheld the whole earth in a circle, and beneath the earth and above the heaven, and a multitude of stars fell at my knees, and I numbered them all, and they passed before me like a host of mortals. Then, terrified, I arose from sleep.” 9.29.6 And his father-in-law interprets the dream thus: “O stranger, God has signified this good thing to you; and may I live for when these things one day happen to you. Will you indeed raise up a great throne, and will you yourself be an arbiter and leader of mortals? And as for seeing the whole earth and the inhabited world, and the things beneath and above the heaven of God; you will see the things that are, and the things before, and the things after.” 9.29.7 concerning the burning bush and his mission to Pharaoh again
